Going to be the new Hillary Clintons e-mails. And why does stuff like this stick with Democrats, but never damages Republicans especially Trump.
Edit- and Biden was VP for 8 freaking years, why did she decide to come forward now

I feel sick that at least 3 threads by visitors have been smeared at the place where serious people come to read and write together. Damned creepy.

(2,042 posts)As for why? Here are a couple of possibilities:
1. Shes nuts. 18 months ago she was tweeting effusive praise for Biden. Then in 2019 shes all in for Donnie and Vlad.
2. Shes a trump-putin operative playing the role she was cast.
3. Shes just a garden variety fame seeker desperate to be a celebrity.

(15,325 posts)She lost all credibility with her admiration of Vladimer Putin.
Election is 6 months away.
The promotion of her 'story' has been shopped by the same nefarious players who spent years relentlesly running a smear campaign against Sec Hillary Clinton.
For 1 purpose.
It worked in 2016 & they're back to continue the playbook in 2020.
Their assault on American Democracy & our US Constitution comes from all directions, inside the US as well as foreign adversaries.
Tara Reade's praise of Putin followed by this bullshit accusation is well timed for maximum coverage to do the most damage.
You either applaud her admiration of Putin or you see this for what it is & stop defending it.
Vladimer Putin is no friend to the United States of America & neither is Tara Reade.
No one gets to be both.

This is NOT a GOP hitjob.

(15,325 posts)He either didn't do his homework or just didn't find her 2019 Putin praise, in her own texts, quite as appalling nor sensational.
We know who ran this story & who's shopping it down their usual feed chain.
Guess it was to be expected from the sourcing of this hit piece.
Pretty damned pathetic. Speaks loudly as to who they have been all along.

(9,114 posts)with the novelty of the Donald having worn off and the sexual assault allegations sealed in the National Enquirer filed FINALLY coming out, the Repiggies will have a harder time trying to milk the Reade allegations.
The only way the Repiggies could look good is if Donnie drops dead and Father Pence becomes the Republican nominee.

(95,244 posts)They cannot effectively assail our political figures without our help. Well-meaning, good-hearted people who tend to the left need to learn not to allow their better natures to be taken advantage of by vicious scum on the right, and splinterest wreckers on the far left, who enlist them in their charges against figures of the center left, by exhorting them to 'be consistent' and telling them 'don't be hypocrites'. The proper response to attempts at this is a hearty "Fuck off! Nobody cares what a rancid piece of dogshit like you thinks!" Or words to that effect....
Only attack the enemy, the christo-fascist right.
Never, ever, attack people who are on your side.
If you want one quick reason why the right wing wields power well out of proportion to the popularity of its policies, it is that they adhere to this rule, and we on the left do not.
"Defeat of a dangerous enemy is something to be for."

Of course everyone in the media knew that many federal officials used personal email but they covered that story as if Clinton was the only person who ever did.

Its almost like they are sick of talking about the virus and just giving it more legs to have something else to talk about. With pretty much nothing else happening now with everyone home what do they have to report on?

(7,473 posts)Down to their rank and file they'll do everything they can to create and sustain an uproar about this for the entire election. When there is an uproar the media covers it.
The VRWC can't win honestly so they cheat. They think its fun as hell.

And they did not offer the standard, noncommittal I dont remember any such complaint. The denials were firm. She did not come to me. If she had, I would have remembered her, Kaufman said. Toner made a similar statement. And from Baker: I never once witnessed, or heard of, or received, any reports of inappropriate conduct (by Biden), period." Baker said such a complaint, had Reade made it, "would have left a searing impression on me as a woman professional, and as a manager.
►Missing formal complaint. Reade told The Times she filed a written complaint against Biden with the Senate personnel office. But The Times could not find any complaint. When The Times asked Reade for a copy of the complaint, she said she did not have it. Yet she maintained and provided a copy of her 1993 Senate employment records.
It is odd that Reade kept a copy of her employment records but did not keep a copy of a complaint documenting criminal conduct by a man whose improprieties changed the trajectory of her life. Its equally odd The Times was unable to find a copy of the alleged Senate complaint.
►Memory lapse. Reade has said that she cannot remember the date, time or exact location of the alleged assault, except that it occurred in a semiprivate area in corridors connecting Senate buildings. After I left the Justice Department, I was appointed by the federal court in Los Angeles to represent indigent defendants. The first thing that comes to mind from my defense attorney perspective is that Reades amnesia about specifics makes it impossible for Biden to go through records and prove he could not have committed the assault, because he was somewhere else at the time.
For instance, if Reade alleged Biden assaulted her on the afternoon of June 3, 1993, Biden might be able to prove he was on the Senate floor or at the dentist. Her memory lapses could easily be perceived as bulletproofing a false allegation.
►The lie about losing her job. Reade told The Union that Biden wanted her to serve drinks at an event. After she refused, "she felt pushed out and left Biden's employ," the newspaper said last April. But Reade claimed this month in her Times interview that after she filed a sexual harassment complaint with the Senate personnel office, she faced retaliation and was fired by Bidens chief of staff.
Leaving a job after refusing to serve drinks at a Biden fundraiser is vastly different than being fired as retaliation for filing a sexual harassment complaint with the Senate. The disparity raises questions about Reades credibility and account of events.
►Compliments for Biden. In the 1990s, Biden worked to pass the Violence Against Women Act. In 2017, on multiple occasions, Reade retweeted or liked praise for Biden and his work combating sexual assault. In the same year, Reade tweeted other compliments of Biden, including: My old boss speaks truth. Listen. It is bizarre that Reade would publicly laud Biden for combating the very thing she would later accuse him of doing to her.

(5,969 posts)Although this ludicrous story shouldn't deserve any attention, we are dealing with people from both extremes of the political spectrum who have a very strong confirmation bias, who desperately need something to smear Biden and who might influence others with their lies.
Ignoring them won't help, hammering them on the facts might be necessary to counter their arguments. That won't help to persuade them but it might influence those in the middle who would otherwise only see one side of the story (the lie).
And for those pretending that our position is to believe all women, which story should we believe? The first one when she said that it wasn't sexual or the one suddenly elevated to rape once Sanders started losing? Similarly, which of the countless reasons for her getting fired/moving on voluntarily from her job under Biden should one believe? It's so obvious that she's a fraud because she contradicts herself again and again. Those who brought down Weinstein looked at her story and ran away from it for good reasons.

(8,650 posts)The Hillary campaign tried to ignore the stupid email issue but it kept coming back up to bite her and in the end it was part of her downfall. Hind site it would probably have been better to have addressed it more and explain what happened in a simple logical manner that anyone can understand.
I think that is what Biden may need to do here as well. He needs to say something like this:
"This person was on my staff for a short period of time back in the early 90's. Her allegations are false. Based on our records she never filed any kind of complaint or ever suggested anything of the sort she is alleging now decades later. I have always been a leader and fierce supporter of protecting woman's right's in the workplace. However this case is not credible and is a false accusation against me. I do not know what her motives are but she should stop peddling this lie."
