Went to Walmart today. Like no trip ever.

Last edited Wed Apr 29, 2020, 11:51 PM - Edit history (1)

Had to wait 30 minutes in line. No problem. What else would I be doing?

Anyway's the door controller and I wore masks, but 70% of the people behind me weren't. I said to her, why not really loudly say, "thanks for wearing a mask! We're saving each others lives!"

Seems like we can shame a lot of people into doing the right thing.

About one-quarter to one-third of the shoppers are wearing masks or bandannas. The rest of the people don't give a damn and are interacting like nothing is going on.

The director of our county health department announced data from the University of Maryland that indicated only 25 percent of our county population complied with the stay-at-home order in the last week. That meshes with what I've observed from the traffic and what I've heard from others who have ventured to stores.

This is Trump Central, home to his first stadium event in 2015 and another after his election.

At least make an attempt.

I would imagine just a piece of cloth wrapped around the head is better than nothing.

I have yet to find a regular mask for sale. They aren't available. If they were, drug stores and pharmacies would have them. They don't. Neither does Walmart, or Lowes. Every person I asked about where they got theirs, said it was through their place of employment. I am retired.

Lots seem to be on line, but are they any good (?), and exactly how long would it take to get them (?) (Amazon's two day delivery now can take two weeks to a month), IF you actually get them.

So I made my own.

There are a ton of sellers there, offering in all styles, sizes, colors, and prices. I've placed a couple of orders, and the quality has been terrific. Turn-around time has been 10-14 days from the sellers I used.

Cut the sleeve and quarter-trunk out of an old black tee-shirt I was going to slice up into rags anyway; boom, cheap neck gaiter that I can wash every night. It's a tight squeeze but not so tight is mashes my face. Over that goes the grey N95 that was sitting in the back of my junk drawer for a decade. The straps are too tight and itchy, so the gaiter helps with that; also, nobody has to look at my grampa jowls and neck wattle for the duration.

I did the "Pick-up Order" option. What a goddamned CLUSTERFUCK! It took TWO HOURS and they didn't even have my entire order, and when I got home, I had part of someone else's order. I know these are hard times, but they were woefully underprepared and not at all organized. Though I didn't go in the store, I saw people going in, less than half wore masks of any sort. A few had kids in tow. I understand some may not have sitters, but when there are TWO adults and three children, SOMEONE can stay home! This is NOT the time for a family outing! Of course, my "city" is NOT taking this seriously, though we now are number FOUR in infection rates (increasing daily), but we aren't even in the top ten of the largest cities in Oklahoma!

I haven't been out of the house in 19 days; and frankly, I felt even more concerned when I went out and saw how many places were PACKED with people.

for a brief few minutes. Only one other person besides me had a mask on. The cashier stood at the counter without a mask, checking groceries. At least the store was limiting the number of customers allowed in the store.

Each time I received my order immediately when I arrived. They always text me about a half hour before pickup time and want a confirmation ok that I’ll be there. On their app is a map that shows where I am at that time. There always are some items they have run out of. I think it’s best to choose an early pickup before they run out of items. The girls that bring out the orders all have masks on. Before I leave, I check all my groceries to make sure everything is there. Actually, it’s working out good for me.

Here in KY. He said all the workers were wearing masks, and about half the shoppers. 6 ft. rule in effect.

I was quite disturbed yesterday about a Lowe's delivery. Our dryer crapped out--yeah, great timing. Ordered one from Lowes, and specifically asked that delivery people wear masks in my home. They assured me they would be wearing them. Delivery arrived--no masks. I said, if I come down with the virus, I'll know who to call. Then I sprayed Lysol on everything they may have touched or breathed out.

What would you have done? I had 3 days worth of laundry piled up.

In San Diego everyone will have to wear masks now. Good! My dentist laughed at me 6 weeks ago, now I know I was being smart. Geez, not until only a few weeks ago we were being told NOT TO WEAR MASKS!

Talk about fucked up messaging!!!!!! No wonder everyone is confused about what to do that is safe for everyone. Making Amerikkka Great Again???????????

Gov Newsom is going to keep all beaches in the state closed now. That is what happens when a few in the LA area were opened and too many people couldn't act like a responsible grown up and use common sense. The stay at home order has been extended indefinitely today. I am grateful to live here and to have him as the governor.

and they don't want to use a bandana because not only does it not do much of anything, they're afraid some twitchy cop will think they're robbing the joint and shoot them.

That is a real risk in my own neighborhood, which is a sketchy one.

I don't have any masks. I had them years ago but I dimly recall using them when I had to repair drywall.

So I'll be taking a scarf and I will put it across my face if requested to, but I had something or other a month ago and I haven't been out in 2 months so I am no risk to anyone.

Cloth masks were worn throughout the 1918 pandemic. They did nothing to stop viruses.

And maybe we won’t be getting them.

I had dust masts like in construction, but they are uncomfortable to older guys like me.

Fortunately a friend gave me one of the ones that just use 2 ears. I’ve been using it.

And we are now looking for a second source of masks. Back in March we were told surfaces were the main transfer. We had gloves, and I bought extra-large gloves. One size fits all is not true, and for me, extra large ain’t good enough.

My local government posted the diy mask info online and ran ads in the local papers which showed how to make the masks.

I made the folded bandana with filter paper type. Tip: use rubber bands instead of hair ties. I used the rubber bands that are about 2” long.

amongst the crowd of others going to pick up supplies, NOBODY had on a mask: not any of the police, none of the firemen, and none of the DPH staff who were handing out the allotments.

I begged my mom to avoid touching her eyes and to spray everything down thoroughly before handling it, but I've watched her in action at the airport and she touches her face quite frequently.

So yeah. I'm extremely worried and concerned. Nobody is taking this shit seriously. And with it being 1 day after Pence's selfish and moronic actions, is it any wonder?
