FLIPPABLE: Terri LeGrand for NC-SD31

I grew up in a small, mountain town. I came to Winston-Salem to attend law school at Wake Forest, and I’ve spent most of my adult life in North Carolina. Initially, I put my law degree to work advocating for women, children and families. I spent several years working directly with at-risk youth while living in a group home for teenage boys. I have spent the past 15 years ensuring students have the resources they need to pursue their dreams of higher education.

I have been active in serving this community for the past 18 years. I co-founded the Piedmont Earth Day Fair and subsequently Piedmont Environmental Alliance, a non-profit that is building a healthier, more economically vibrant and environmentally sustainable community. I served as PTA president for two years at Paisley IB Magnet School, a title one school in Winston-Salem, and I have worked for a just and equitable community through my service on the Board of Forsyth Futures, as a member of the Women’s Leadership Council of the United Way, and as a community volunteer.

I am running for the NC Senate because I believe we have lost our way. In our state government, divisions are wide, compromise is missing, and moral and ethical behavior is lacking. We need to send legislators to Raleigh who truly want to work together across party lines to provide good jobs, affordable health care, quality and equitable schools, freedom from gun violence, and clean water and air — the building blocks for healthy communities and a vibrant economy.

I will bring integrity and passion to this job. I will listen, and I will lead. I will reach across party lines to build consensus on the issues most important to my constituents. It’s time for North Carolina to unite.

I am grateful for your support.
