will you continue your own indefinite quarantine whenever things do open up in your area even after it's "safe"? I'm an under 50 non obese non smoker without respiratory issues but I don't really go out much to begin with

(9,694 posts)doing the right thing. We all wear masks, we do distancing and all other precautions. I will continue to wear a mask even in this safe environment. I'm in Palm Beach County, Florida.

(630 posts)As i have elevated blood pressure if not hypertension, but I'll answer anyway. We're not going to do anything for the next month that we haven't done for the past month. I already see a few folks acting like it's back to the old normal. I think a spike in cases is inevitable. If, in a month or 6 weeks that spike isn't materializing, we may begin to re- engage a bit more. Good question though, will be interesting to take DUs temperature on this.

(1,379 posts)If the establishment supports social distancing, and wearing masks, I will go out. Preferably if its a restaurant, they will have outdoor seating where the tables are paced, etc.
I believe that this virus will be with us until a vaccine is in place, but that we cant quarantine that long. I will take precautions, and I wear a mask in stores, but Im not going to sit at home forever.
I also cant wait for hospitals to open for elective surgerys and routine care, so I can get back to work. I work from home (for close to twenty years), but I still have been furloughed due to extremely low census. Even though I make almost as much on unemployment, Im bored! I cant wait to go back to work!

(64,990 posts)When garden centers open, maybe.
I see restaurants as problematic, unless some owner goes skeleton, fills to 30%, has sanitizer on each table...
Even then, I'd have a decision to make.

(64,990 posts)I saw that, too. I find it scaremongering.

I doubt restaurants are going to open & do 25% occupancy anyway.

(9,888 posts)a healthy 90-year-old who is obviously high risk just due to age. I am 62. I will probably continue to be more careful than I would be if it were just me. I am an essential worker. I will not wear a mask one second more or in any place where it is not absolutely demanded. I will continue to wash hands and disinfect when I get in my car. The 90 year old swims at the Y every single day of her life and will be there when the doors finally open again. I suspect that social distancing will fall by the wayside once everyone is allowed out again.
I plan to travel in the fall inside the country and will go as planned if California is opened up by then. My travel companion probably will not because she doesn't feel safe flying and doesn't think she will by then.
I will probably judge what to do by how many people are still getting sick in my area.

(6,496 posts)When they let us get back to normal, we will get back to normal. We have to work. My oldest child is starting college in the fall. My youngest child needs to go to school. We have to live our lives.

(8,052 posts)has high BP (treated with ACE inhibitor), and we're both over 50. I guess age is enough of a risk factor. Either way, we are starting to get back out there to shop and get appointments done, and we are planning some camping trips this summer. I wouldn't go to restaurants, or salons, and I still get curbside pickup or online-shop for most of my stuff, except when it isn't practical. My husband is back at work this week--he was fortunate to have five paid weeks to stay home. His workplace requires masks and has a team that has sewn some for everybody, so they are looking out for their employees at least as far as that goes.

(58,638 posts)I'm 67, live alone in senior housing. Don't go out much anyway. Haven't been to a bar or movie theater in close to 10 years. I'll have to think about my weekly breakfast with my brother. I miss those, but I'll have to weigh the pluses and minuses, for sure.

(35,433 posts)And I need to see declining numbers.
This virus can linger in small spaces without ventilation. Public restrooms will be ground zero for infections. I can't get to work unless I take the subway, and I need to see a plan by my city/state as to how they will protect people who take the subway.

(90,335 posts)... people can get infected.
It needs to be free and easy to get, not standing in a line for 3 hours for a 4 hour turnaround.
The fuel pumps are the true ground zero here in KC

(5,554 posts)the only thing I miss is socializing with a few close friends. Most of them are low risk as well, so I'm open to restarting that aspect of my social life.
Can't stand crowds, retail stores, and especially cities; and will happily use this an excuse to avoid them for a long time to come.
