I try to politely help people wearing them incorrectly (usually upside down when they have cup types with clips), but honestly it seems these trends are increasing, not decreasing. I just got back from the grocery store and saw most if not all of these examples. Have you? Maybe you can share some of these with others you see losing all chance at efficacy from the mask. (20,666 posts)I'd estimate only 20% of the time do I think someone is really stopping the droplets, based on my trips to the grocery store.

(8,052 posts)(starting to venture out again) and have seen ALL of this idiocy. I guess the Surgeon General was right--we ARE too stupid to wear masks properly. Mine is a homemade non-sew dealie made of old cotton/lycra shorts, with an inner layer of paper towels or a thick-weave piece of cotton, and I feel like it covers adequately and is probably at least somewhat helpful. A surprising number of people in my area have real disposable medical masks (thought we weren't supposed to use those?) and another bunch have nicely-sewn cotton ones--and a few bandanas, neck gaiters, etc. so at least they're trying for the most part. Store employees, by the way, are the WORST for compliance. Below their chins, dangling from an ear, mouth coverage only etc.

(17,528 posts)It was required to wear a mask to the visit. Two women in the waiting room were wearing masks under their noses. The waiting room had individual chairs placed 12" apart. They were supposed to take my temp at the check-in window, but they didn't. I showed up at my appointment time, but had to spend an hour sitting in a waiting room with sick people. When I left the office the waiting room was nearly full. Some people, even medical professionals, just don't get it. I am looking for a new GP.
When I went to the drive-thru at the pharmacy, my prescriptions were placed in a filthy plastic basket that had been wrapped with clear tape to hold it together. The exposed sticky surface of the tape on the inside of the basket was full of months or years worth of grime. It was obvious that the basket had never been cleaned. The stainless steel drawer was also grimy. This pharmacy was one of the two big boys in the industry! I am looking for a new pharmacy.
The problem is that in the town closest to me there are two pharmacies, the usual suspects, across the street from each other. I had a similar experience at the other one a couple of weeks before. Then, the clerks were running back and forth between the inside counter and the drive-thru window and no one in the place was wearing masks or gloves, and no one was washing hands between customers.....I had a good view while waiting to get my stuff......
Now, understand, I was a career plumber; plumbers can't be germophobes!
