without the dire results we all fear should be required to mention that Sweden is a small country with a small population where income inequality is not an issue and where anyone who is feeling unwell can receive immediate medical treatment, free. I bet in Sweden anybody who wants a test gets a test.

(22,065 posts)Sweden a little bit, to see if their thinking of a 'herd mentality' will work. I don't think so, which is why I'm watching them. I hate to be anyone's experiment, so I hope that the powers that be, such as the idiot in the WH, doesn't let the CV 'wash' over the Country.
Scumbag. He should be hauled up before the Courts and charged w/ treason, and indifference to human life.

(115,584 posts)Its death rate is 256 per million population while that of its neighbors Norway and Finland, with similar demographics, economies and health care systems, is 38 per million for both countries. Sweden had 790 new cases yesterday while Norway had 28 and Finland had 89. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Sweden's population is about twice Norway's and Finland's, so you could double those numbers but they would still be vastly lower than Sweden's. The only significant difference is that Norway and Finland imposed restrictions and Sweden didn't.

(5,969 posts)and it's not like everybody there is acting is as if nothing has changed. I think the Government proposed guidelines as well, they are just not as strict in implementing them.
This is also a question of population density. Stockholm seems to be hit pretty hard in relative terms.

It's also not filled to brim with people who believe in Faith Healing and CT whackadoodles and anti-vaxxers and that ilk who think it's all just a big gubmint conspiracy and/or GAWD will protect them.
IOW, they tell the population there's this problem, and this is what they should be doing about it, and the people believe the government and scientists and public health professionals and much more reliably do what's being recommended w/o there having to be laws and regulations ... vs. what would happen in the USA w/o those rules being imposed legally.

(22,307 posts)It's actually really, really difficult to get tested. Only hospitalized patients and people who work in health/direct care and who are suspected to have it are tested.
