The leap is large, the connection tenuous in the extreme.

(48,966 posts)Many trumpanzees are evangelical christians and hypocritical ones at that. They are willing to sacrifice others by breaking physical distancing and not wearing masks and "opening up the economy" regardless of how many people get exposed and subsequently die. Many of them are enamoured of lethal guns. They support the serial divorcer in the White House who is famous for his adultery and other violations of christian doctrine, including lying all the time. They would rather let poor people suffer and die than act in a christian (and humanist) way to them through government.
Perhaps you have noticed other instances of hyperbole for effect on DU with regard to all manner of topics and issues?
whathehell
(29,034 posts)shows how little you know about either.
The Evangelical movement comprise only about a third of all Christians and so are hardly representative. Please educate yourself.

And educate yourself about Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, and Methodist communion.

(507 posts)of his practice next week. He and his staff were wearing face masks, disposable gloves, and protective eye gear well before the pandemic started. Dental care should be included in basic medical care and covered under medical insurance, too. Your teeth and mouth are an integral part of your anatomy and, as you said, care of them are important to your overall health.

(6,496 posts)They will only see you if it is an emergency. I read article about one local dental practice that took out a loan to get all this safety equipment to open up May 1st, but they are still not able to open up because the state decided it was in conflict with CDC recommendations. This particular dentist said he is getting concerned because they longer we put off dental procedures, the worse it is going to be when they up back up again. For example, some people will need root canals because their cavities weren't taken care of in a timely fashion. Basically, the problems are going to become more severe and the procedures will be more expensive.

(6,496 posts)If you have a library card, you can even check out library books direct to your kindle. I believe most libraries now provide this service. You can get a kindle e-reader for around $100, which isn't all that much. It just depends on whether it is worth it to you. It is not a pricey device. There are also a ton of e-books out there on amazon and other places that are free.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,271 posts)You dismiss spending $100. There are some e-books for free on Amazon; but if you think education (or reading for pleasure) is just about reading any book, then you obviously don't do much of it. Some library books are available electronically, but not all.

(10,130 posts)where the local library is often the only affordable internet (I'm related to one). Others may have to decide between high speed enough access to get ebooks from their libraries or pay for groceries, transportation, etc.
I love the libraries' electronic services (yep, plural: in addition to my local city library I have a card from the San Francisco system that lets me access their more extensive electronic collection) and use them regularly. But I have the resources to do so, which not everyone does.

He is dead set on killing the max numbers of Americans, but most of us aren''t with his program.

(28,443 posts)And it terrifies us library workers! Libraries aren't like retail establishments, where people buy things and then keep them. We're not like restaurants doing curbside pickup because no one returns their dirty to-go cups to the restaurant. And we're not like most municipal offices, where people walk in, go to a counter, get a piece of paper (or whatever) and leave, again, never returning the paper. No, libraries are places where people walk in, walk to every corner, and touch all the things, which is a huge disease vector. Then when they're done with the their items, they return them. As COVID-19 can live on plastic for up to 72 hours, and most of our items are covered in plastic, that means we have to quarantine all returns for three days, and few libraries have the building space for that.
Please, avail yourselves of our electronic resources during this time. Feel free to call us for reference questions, we're still open for that! (Most librarians are either working in closed buildings or the library's phones are forwarded to our homes during business hours.) Please don't push for the library to reopen! And in the meantime, lobby your city/town/county to not lay off library worker at this time because when we do open, our doors will be beaten down by people applying for jobs, families needing safe space to play and learn, and all the other things the library does - and that we miss providing! We do miss our patrons, but we want you and us alive and healthy when normality returns.

They have been closed since Friday, March 13th. I know, Friday the 13th.
Anyway she tell me about all the concerns and obstacles to reopening the library.
Patrons typically browse around a library, picking up and putting down books, magazines, CD's, and DVD's. Some of them spend hours in the library...it's a social experience for lots of people.
It's impossible for a library to disinfect all their materials, let alone all the surfaces, furniture, and computers on a regular basis...they simply don't have the budget or staff for it.
When the library opens, it will probably be for some sort of order and pickup type of situation.
They don't see the public being able to come in and walk around even with ppe's until there is an effective treatment.
Can you imagine children wearing masks and gloves and not touching anything? Not to mention that there is senior citizen housing across the street and they have a large number of elderly patrons.
It's a medical disaster waiting for a chance to happen.
Of course, that isn't why the Trump beast and his minions haven't called for opening libraries and bookstores. First, they don't read a lot,and secondly, libraries don't sell anything, they are a service to their communities.
My wife wants me to put in a plug for libraries in general. Many libraries are still open digitally and have a lot of content that can be accessed by computer. They also have staff working from home who operate a help desk to answer questions and give assistance to patrons.
Librarians have always been community oriented, and will do what they can to help people get through this most difficult situation.

(10,130 posts)Here, most of them have rooms available to community groups for meetings. For some people, it's their only access to decent internet service.
I wish they would open at least for a day, though: I have 2 library books sitting at home that I'd really like to return. Since all the libraries in the Bay Area are now closed they've extended the due dates to the end of June, but I'd really like them out of my custody.
