Calling all 'compassionate conservatives......come in conservatives....'

are you guys still out there?

the bushes? the cheneys? the rockefellers? (were they right/gop?)

the guys who love to spend trillions of dollars on weapons that we never use....

who work closely with our allies....many of them dubious allies... because it makes them money...

you realize the this orange monster in the white house is not only killing your party...killing your chances of winning and keeping power in nov.....but he is LITERALLY KILLING YOUR VOTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

old white people in nursing homes. conservative people. church going people. people who would have voted against socialism but cant now because THEY ARE DEAD!!@!#!#@@!#

isnt anyone in that party, who had no problem lying us into iraq and getting thousands of people killed, going to step up and take care of this problem before we see the dems and liberals controlling government for another 40 years?

where is blackwater? where is cheney??? my god go take trump hunting for shits sake and dont let him come back.

isnt there anyone left in that power circle, who is still alive, who helped kill JFK, willing to step up and do the right thing here for the worlds sake?

just when you need them right wing slimy third world government changing black ops cia coup mother fuckers to step up the most and they are M.I.A.????????? what the actual fuck.

you guys are getting wiped out just as badly as us liberals are so cmon guys, where are you at?

Really nice guy, actually. He knew my dad pretty well, since my dad covered New York State affairs for his paper as a Washington correspondent. He knew every NY governor from Dewey to Mario Cuomo on a first-name basis.

As for "conservatives," you didn't describe one conservative in your OP, just Republicans. There is a difference. The fact that they have hijacked the word for their own purposes doesn't change what's in the dictionary. They can call themselves that, but it doesn't miraculously transform them. They can wade into the ocean, too, but they still won't grow gills and become fish.

I can't remember what her association is with Nelson. But he had lunch with her two months ago in NY City.

the country club republicans, of whom rockefeller was a leader, were moderately socially liberal, bit on the conservative side of keynesian economically. they are extinct, and their trademark country clubs (which would never allow trump as a member) now belong to trump,.

...and the faction of them to whom the phrase might actually apply were snuffed out as a political force by the current extremists and absolutists in the 70s and 80s.

A couple of years back conservative columnist Mona Charen got booed at CPAC, and afterward complained

What happened to me at CPAC is the perfect illustration of the collective experience of a whole swath of conservatives since Donald Trump became the Republican nominee. We built and organized this party — but now we’re made to feel like interlopers.

***
For traditional conservatives, the past two years have felt like a Twilight Zone episode. Politicians, activists and intellectuals have succumbed with numbing regularity, betraying every principle they once claimed to uphold. But there remains a vigorous remnant of dissenters. I hear from them. There were even some at CPAC.

All I could think was: Welcome to Rockefeller Republican-dom, Mona. You guys didn't organize the GOP, it was there long before you. What you and your ilk did was take it over. Where you could, you forced out GOP pols who failed to "succumb[] with numbing regularity, betraying every principle they once claimed to uphold", and where you couldn't you isolated them and waited until they retired or died and then replaced them with someone who'd get with your program.

And to get the votes to do all that, you built a Republican voting base of exactly the sort of people you're complaining about now. You didn't complain then, you cheered your victories. Trump is your own damn fault. You and every other "Never Trumper" who made careers in Republican messaging and conservative media.

Some of them are making anti-Trump ads. Good for that, but be ready for when they stab us in the kidneys.

The rest? They won't do more than make occasional burps of "concern" and verbal scowls of disapproval before they fall back in line, but nothing more. Once we've done all the heavy lifting, they'll pat themselves on the back for their "bravery" (and expect us to pat them too).
