Trump urges Michigan's Whitmer to 'make a deal' with those protesting stay-at-home order
By Morgan Chalfant - 05/01/20 09:47 AM EDT

President Trump on Friday urged Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) to negotiate and “make a deal” with those protesting her stay-at-home order in the state.

“The Governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire,” Trump tweeted Friday morning. “These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal.”

Whitmer extended the stay-at-home order in her state on Thursday, after hundreds of protesters, some of them armed, demonstrated outside the state Capitol. The Republican-led legislature, meanwhile, debated inside and ultimately declined to extend the state’s emergency declaration and voted to bring forth a lawsuit challenging Whitmer’s power.

Whitmer’s new executive actions, issued later Thursday, extend business closures and declare a state of emergency until May 28.

“COVID-19 is an enemy that has taken the lives of more Michiganders than we lost during the Vietnam War,” Whitmer said in a statement. “While some members of the legislature might believe this crisis is over, common sense and all of the scientific data tells us we’re not out of the woods yet.”

“By refusing to extend the emergency and disaster declaration, Republican lawmakers are putting their heads in the sand and putting more lives and livelihoods at risk. I’m not going to let that happen,” she continued.

I know that is not healthy, but it's not avoidable without shutting myself off from the world.

Pretty sure those guns were a means of intimidating the lawmakers into giving them their way. I'm glad Gov. Whitmer wasn't intimidated by those not-so-tough guys.

Armed insurrection is a crime. If they want to change political policy, run and get elected for office. I somehow doubt that any of these people care enough to run on their convictions. It would be a waste of time.

The so-called "American Patriot Rally" was organized by the recently-formed group Michigan United for Liberty and came two weeks after a similar protest dubbed "Operation Gridlock" created a traffic jam outside the government building.

Some demonstrators on Thursday wore "Make America Great Again" hats, while others carried firearms into the Capitol building. It is legal to carry a visible weapon in Michigan.

"You aren't allowed to bring in posters to the Michigan State Capitol, but you can bring guns and rifles," wrote progressive activist Linda Sarsour.

Another governor could easily have them forcibly removed from the capitol building. State police have swat teams and these savages are domestic terrorists. Once they raise their weapons, they're lethal targets. When they bring assault weapons into a state executive building, they walk a very thin line. Raise your weapon and you're toast.

Leave the capitol grounds now or you will be detained by the Michigan NG.

If you raise your weapons to resist you will be shot dead.

I saw the pictures of those people carrying weapons to the statehouse in Michigan and inside the hall where legislators were working. How in the world are they allowed to get away with brandishing weapons inside the statehouse? Clearly they are threatening people there is no mistake about that.

Governor Whitmer should in no way concede an inch. She is doing her job protecting the people of Michigan...whether they want that protection or not. You Go Girl!

GREAT rumor to start/proliferate through GunnyVille. Some LTTE in the Shotgun News, with text from applicable state statutes, about consequences, and "How to be shot", lawfully, by a police officer.
