(95,244 posts)We must make sure everyone knows we are having none of it, shame any on our side who try and pretend there's something to this swill, and blanket 'news' outlets who try and peddle these lies with angry protests and threats of boycott --- anything short of actual threats of lethal violence.
The time for this sort of crap is over. They cannot ruin our leaders without our help, and we need to get this through our collective heads. Well-meaning, good-hearted people who tend to the left need to learn not to allow their better natures to be taken advantage of by vicious scum on the right, and splinterest wreckers on the far left, who enlist them in their charges against figures of the center left, by exhorting them to 'be consistent' and telling them 'don't be hypocrites'. The proper response to attempts at this is a hearty "Fuck off! Nobody cares what a rancid piece of dogshit like you thinks!" Or words to that effect....
Only attack the enemy, the christo-fascist right.
Never, ever, attack people who are on your side.
If you want one quick reason why the right wing wields power well out of proportion to the popularity of its policies, it is that they adhere to this rule, and we on the left do not.
There are a damned sight more of us than there are of them.

(47,351 posts)but she had it coming. I have no problem with a journalist asking hard questions or playing devil's advocate, but she went too far. The interview was unprofessional and looked too much like she was trying to create a memorable moment or soundbite. I've seen other journalists do this and they usually end up making themselves look bad, not the person they are interviewing.
Biden was respectful, polite, and very clear in his answers. If someone answers your question, move on to the next one.

(95,244 posts)Show-boat talking heads playing 'balance' as if the Golden Mean were not a logical fallacy need to learn fear of social consequences. There are a damned sight more of us than there are of them, and we need to come together and make this plain.

(47,351 posts)devil's advocate type questions without appearing accusatory. "People will say that ______, how do you respond to that?" She asked some of her questions as if she assumed he was guilty or hiding something. She's been a supposed journalist long enough, she should have known better. She was trying too hard to be tough with a very open and honest politician.

(95,244 posts)I have some modest experience at playing advocatus diaboli, and it is a necessary role at times. But too often the critters who pass themselves off as journalists and wise pundits play the role of prosecutors on a cross-examination, and always against the side least culpable, while lobbing softballs at the side whose behavior is an outrage, and they do it as a feature of their business model, which requires equalizing a contest to the greatest degree possible, so they have something to cover that is exciting. Truth is not always in the middle, quite often it rests with one side or another, but these bought-out hacks cannot allow themselves that admission.

(47,351 posts)can be a very effective way to frame questions, but you do it without coming across as the devil. Clearing the air is a good thing, as there will be questions from others down the road, who are not as friendly. Though I think what bothered me the most was she showed no respect for the Vice President. He deserved to be treated better than that.
I also sensed her own insecurities at play here - "I can be just as tough as any male journalist". There's a fine line between tough and rude though. After all these years, I'm afraid she will always be just Joe Scarborough's sidekick.

(10,136 posts)The corporate media doctrine of False Equivalence requires all "responsible unbiased journalists" to report any allegation against one candidate, no matter how often it's been investigated and debunked, to "balance" their coverage of the well-documented sins of his/her opponent.
