Wow! Hats off to CA EDD for incredibly fast processing of my UI claim

How’s this for impressive?:

On Tuesday, I filed for UI benefits as an independent contractor under the expanded benefits program available under the CARES Act. This morning, I surfed by the CA EDD site to check my claim, only to see that it had not only been approved, but that I had two months of benefits going back to March 1 ready to be certified. Processed in three days. Unbelievable!

Who says government doesn’t work? Maybe it’s just here in CA, but, damn!

No. I'm all 1099s. And because me and my CPA are quarantined, I haven't done 2019 taxes yet, CPA BamaRefugee May 2020 #5

But with the NID ( CA) . After my first paperwork was misplaced by the doctor's office, they submitted a new form last Monday. By next Thursday, claim had been approved and letters mailed to my employer. I am grateful for how fast it was approved!

Status, they asked for my 10 digit “confirmation number “. The only number I could find was a 6 or 7 digit number on the paperwork I got from them when I registered.

That number didn’t work, I kept looking at the site and finally saw that the number they want “would be mailed” to me. Did you get past this, or even encounter it?

Congratulations on successfully getting in the system. It’s unbelievable that they have never allowed us in before!

However, I was on UI back in 2018, so I am set up with both CA EDD and BoA who processes the payments. That may have moved things along for me.

You need to identify everyone you worked for, and CA EDD contacts your most-recent employer to confirm employment and to determine if you are eligible for benefits. Employers often challenge claims because the amount they are required to pay into the UE fund increases based on their workforce turnover. That adds time and angst to the process.

This time around, I didn’t need to identify any clients/employers, just state my earnings for 2019. It’s like we’re on the honor system, a system that I trust will be tightened up if this situation continues. Right now they are shoving out $ as fast as they can. But that’s liberal CA for ya.

figured out a ballpark number for me for net income.

Well, I have my fingers crossed, I still haven't even gotten that mythical $1200 check yet!

that $3600 had been deposited in my account! That’s UI from March 1 forward. CA EDD is giving 1099 filers $167 a week, then adding the $600-per-week from the Feds as of April 1 thru the end of July.

I hope a lot of people in my situation take advantage of this while it’s there.
