ATLANTA One of the worlds leading experts in pandemic response lives right here in Atlanta and has been barred from accessing the technology she created to help governments respond to pandemics.
Researcher Dr. Eva Lee is well-known to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the White House and the Department of Defense.
For nearly 15 years, shes worked to develop infectious disease response models to aid governments in providing testing, treatment, hospital capacity and other critical infrastructure. Those designs are her creations within a federal-funded system housed at Georgia Tech, called RealOpt. Its benefited radiological disaster response in Japan, earthquake aftermath in Haiti and H1N1 response.

(6,973 posts)She doesn't have access, it seems, based on her own mistakes. I'm sure trump will try to scapegoat her in some way, but Georgia Tech not giving her access is not an unprofessional policy, given her pending legal situation.
From the article:
"Late last year, she pleaded guilty to two charges that she falsified certificate paperwork for a $40,000 National Science Foundation grant and lied to a federal agent who investigated the claim."

(11,285 posts)beneath the surface. Requests from FDA to allow her access .. turned away by the university? How plausible is that?

(35,293 posts)even with what she did that was wrong, is that the information is encrypted.
If it's grant-related, why is it encrypted?
They may be her creations--but they're works for hire and subject to regulations and restrictions.
If it's so important that people are dying because they need access to the information, why is it still encrypted? "Let me have access to everything and I'll unencrypt it" sounds like "I won't do this unless you do as I say--and because of you, people will die."
If she has grad students working on it, where are they? And wouldn't much of their work also be locked down?
It's suspicious, and the suspicion that comes to mind is that there's a reason she shouldn't be allowed back in the lab. That seems to be what's going on--preventing access. Not a peep about that--except she's good and they're bad. It's a morality play for those for whom morality has to be black and white, exactly as they're told it is in the sermon.
Sounds like a one-sided story. Less investigation and more emotion-tugging.
