Flipped to barely Democratic. Its a swing state this year.
If Beto really steps it up, I think we can win it.

(5,640 posts)apathy. Hopefully this has woken up the apathetic and they will vote again.
Of course, the gerrymandering has hurt a lot but we can win it back if people get out and vote.

(5,640 posts)They had a loud and constant flow of the "tax and spend liberal" and after a time they bought into it and decided to change party.
I think we can get some of them back. At least, I hope we can.

(8,049 posts)And the other media stations trying to out Fox Fox, thinking that their ratings were worth competing with in that market, in total denial that there was a big market for real news!
That's what's wrong with all the red states and rabid weaponized MAGAts.

My cousin and her family live in Texas on a rancher setting. She called me today and asked whether I have received the stimulus check. I knew she and her family have always been Republicans so I did not want to mention anything about politics.
All of the sudden, she said although she has always been a Republican, she and her husband will now vote for Biden or any Democratic presidential candidate. She said Trump is not her president. He is cruel and never has any kind or caring thoughts to anyone whose ideas do not align with his, and that is not right. A president is supposed to take care of all people regardless of their political views. She even mentioned about Justin Amash whom she will not vote for. She knows that he is against Trump, but if she votes for him, she will be helping Trump. She said it would not make sense and right for non-Trump republicans to vote for Amash.
So now I have my long-time Republican brother in Calabasas, CA, and my entire-life Republican cousin in Texas voting for the next President of the United States of America Joe Biden comes November!!!
And the Lone Star State of Texas is trending blue! Love the changing in times...

Edit: And Arizona too (which McCain won as expected).

(36,745 posts)Then he should run for governor of TX.

(15,936 posts)Julian would get a lot of the MexicanAmericans out to vote. I really wanted Julian to run as governor, but alas he didn't. I think he would have crushed Abbott.

(3,511 posts)Florida is always a wildcard - but it is often on the edge of going one way or the other.
The governor (DeSantis) is not popular right now and he is known to get a buddy of Trump. I'm not sure if Trump is pulling down DeSantis or if DeSantis will pull down Trump - but they are both losing favor here in Florida.
(This is my opinion as a Floridian)
SCantiGOP
(13,869 posts)is to call DeSantis a dumb version of trump. He rivals the complete jackass on his northern border of Georgia.
3catwoman3
(23,975 posts)...a dumb version of Trump is particularly disturbing.
Trump is Wiley and has street smarts when it comes to his own self-aggrandizement, but an intellectual he is not.
whopis01
(3,511 posts)It has the total listed as:
Biden 390
Trump 148
If Texas (38), Florida (29), Nevada (6), Colorado (9), Minnesota (10), Wisconsin (10), and Ohio (18) all go for Trump, the end result would be:
Biden 270
Trump 268
That is very encouraging. But with that said, now is not the time to get complacent.

(13,869 posts)Both Nebraska and Maine award 1 electoral vote to the winner in each Congressional district, which could result in a 269-269 tie. And a tie goes to House to settle, with a similar lame system as the electoral college in that each state's delegation votes on how to award that state's one vote. Currently that would mean the House would choose the repub.
To get even weirder, the Senate then votes to select the VP, which means the two could be from different parties.

(68,556 posts)red red..in terms of the president...there had been a couple of Democratic governors...and then boom...in 2008,it goes blue. I am hoping we see more of that this year...Carolina again, Texas, Arizona and maybe Georgia...we also get back Florida and Ohio...ah...a landslide to to toss the murderous orange asshat out.

JCMach1
(27,556 posts)is going to be a blue state at some point, it is inevitable. Virginia was reliably red not long ago as well. When you have that much growth and movement into the state an that much urbanization you can't stay solidly red.
This might be the cycle when it happens.
roamer65
(36,745 posts)It will be a swing state before it eventually goes solid Democratic. COVID-45s unpopularity is accelerating the process.
There needs to be a catalyst to push it over. Trump could speed it up a couple cycles for sure.
I'd really love to see the reaction from Republicans if Texas flipped. They know there is no way they can ever win the Presidency if Texas goes blue. Clinton states + Texas is 270. Republicans would have to find a way to win some Clinton states without losing any others and that might be really hard for a while. If Texas flips you have to figure Arizona would as well.
roamer65
(36,745 posts)He can flip it.
Foolacious
(497 posts)It shows Nevada and Colorado as barely blue, with Arizona and North Carolina as likely blue. That seems reversed to me.

(1,865 posts)but make no mistake, if this is true, the TX repukes are going to ramp up every devious means to suppress the vote this year. So right now is the time to start protecting the vote, people need to confirm their voter status, register to vote absentee if possible and stay on top of every election shenanigan that is about to hit.

All the guilty members of GOP will go to jail as soon as possible.
Xolodno
(6,390 posts)...then there will be a lot of retirement resignations, declines in running again, etc. from the Republicans. The gig is over.
The question then becomes, who takes over? Do they continue with the current ideological nonsense that doesn't get them anywhere, or do they moderate their stances.
I'm still in shock of my state senator sending me resources in case I become unemployed, holding COVID virtual town halls with doctors, info on where to get tested if you think you might have the virus, resources for food, etc. You would automatically think he's a Democrat, but he's Republican. But then again, there hasn't been any serious Democratic challenger. How can you challenge a Republican when they act like Democrats?

(81,856 posts)Democrats have always come over 1 million votes short in Texas. The only way it happens is mass abandonment of Trump. People might feel like they need to get out of this situation. Then maybe, but it's a longshot.

(2,522 posts)It would be interesting to see what they show now
Perhaps Joe should say something like, "We really need the Texas perspective in the cabinet, and I am looking to include the very best that Texas has to offer"
And for Georgia, "Paging Ms Abrams, Paging Ms Abrams, Your assistance urgently appreciated."

(9,974 posts)Cuz for the 30 yrs Ive lived in TX they have used us as a cash cow to help fund their coffers *for swing state* battles.
Dem candidates fly into (insert any TX metro city here), head straight to a rich donors mansion for a 2 hour private fundraiser...and then they are wheels up, leaving TX.
Get out your damn checkbook, DNC, just hand a signed/blank check to whoever is in charge of the TX campaigning/media buys/***rallies***. You know...rallies that Texans only get to see on TV unless we wanna drive to the nearest swing state to attend.
