I haven't heard of Lucy Moore before.

(95,247 posts)People like Reade leave a lot of ticked-off folks in their wake. Usually one chalks up encounters with that sort of trash to experience, moves on and forgets. But when one of those bad pennies starts making waves and becomes a sort of public figure, it is likely more than a few will remember, and speak up....

(50,949 posts)time today I have seen it linked here.
The first was to lend credence to the right-wing conspiracy theory that CV was released from a Chinese lab.
Also, they say this:
"Anyone can publish on Medium per our Policies, but we dont fact-check every story."
So, while I like what this linked source says, I don't find it particularly credible.

(2,406 posts)But if "Lucy Moore" is a legitimate person who comes forward on the record, then it becomes something.
Editorial aside: a lot of articles in "legitimate" publications (like Slate and Salon) are basically worthless -- the publishing medium nowadays doesn't tell you much -- you always have to consider the evidence and arguments on their own merits.

Not that that lends it any credence, really. That's the kind of platform that the Russians used last time to screw with us.
And you're right. There is a lot of crap journalism out there.

I'll wait to see this woman come out to other news platforms before I get my hopes up.

(95,247 posts)I have read sound and well informed articles there, and also some swill. This seems to be a comment in reply to a post by Reade, rather than a stand alone piece. It has a good ring to it.
And to be blunt, a whisper campaign against Reade is useful, and to be encouraged, even if it were to spread lies, at least so long as those lies were plausible not readily checkable. Sometimes, a punishment can be just only if it contains some element of injustice....

(50,949 posts)But there was just too much manipulation in the last election cycle for me to get my hopes up from something in a source like this without other confirmation.
And while I think a whisper campaign is good when we benefit from it, the general public's acceptance of whisper campaigns hurts our side much more often than it helps us, historically. I don't know if that means we should up our efforts at creating whisper campaigns, or try to make the general public less accepting of whisper campaigns.
In my perfect world, it would be the latter, but this is certainly not my perfect world.

(95,247 posts)It was said by Prof. Robert Oppenheimer, of atom bomb fame.
It seems to me the distillation of the Gnostic (nee Neo-Platonic) dichotomy between Spirit and Matter, by which Spirit is the Good and Matter is the Evil. So by definition, evil is necessary for there to even be a material world, which undoubtedly we are in. Not a view I subscribe to personally, mind, but something in it that statement does ring true even so.
