A good friend of mine passed on Monday. His obit is hilarious!

Last edited Thu Sep 13, 2012, 09:14 PM - Edit history (1)

It's the Lord's turn to put up with Dave now. David XXXX, of XXXXXX, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 10, 2012. Dave lived a fun-filled life doing what he loved to do: a computer tech with XXXXXXXXX and an avid partier. Dave was born in XXXXX, on June 2, 1965. Dave grew up in a home with a large family around him which included his parents, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins always surrounding him. Some of Dave's favorite pastimes included relaxing in front of his state of the art entertainment center while sitting in his favorite chair and drinking a Guinness, driving his Corvette, and going out on XXXXX Lake with his neighbor Dave XXXX - oh yeah, and bringing along his Guinness. Dave also had a cat, that strangely enough, his name was Guinness. Dave also enjoyed classic movies and the local band ManOWar. Dave was a good friend to many of his colleagues at XXXXXX. His friends were all by his side during his illness which is a great testament of the lives he touched during his stay on earth. Dave will be remembered and missed by many. Dave is survived by two brothers, Rick (Charlene), of XXXXXX., and Paul (Dianne), also of XXXXX; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, all living in XXXXX along with his family and friends here in XXXXX. His family and friends would like to thank the staff at the Matthew House for making Dave's last few days as happy and comfortable as possible. The professionalism and kindness shown by the people at the Matthew House was unparalleled. There will be no calling hours or services. Instead there will be a small get-together at the Knights of Columbus on XXXXXXXXXX from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, to celebrate Dave's life. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to help out is asked to make a donation in Dave's name to the Matthew House, XXXXXXXXXX.

Omissions are due to Dave's private nature. I will miss you, my friend. Cross gently.

It also sounds like he will be missed greatly by those who knew him. That's all any one could ask for I think.

I'm glad you're life was touched by such a vibrant soul. For some reason I'll never understand, those are the ones who leave here too soon all too often.

Dave was meticulous. Everything - his sound system, his TV, his Vette - had to be perfect. Not to us, but to him. I learned a great deal from Dave.

and I am sorry for your loss and happy for those he touched with his life.

on a practical note, you mention omitting info due to his private nature? with the info here, it was very easy to find him (which I did prior to seeing your note on the omissions). you might want to edit further unless you don't mind people looking him up.

I also lost my husband way too soon, and he had the same sense of grabbing life with both hands, holding on, and enjoying it. There's no doubt he slid into the next stage sideways, saying "Wow, what a ride!" I'll leave you with this...it brought me great comfort at the time, and still does.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says,
"There she goes!" Gone where? Gone from my sight . . . that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, "There she goes!" there are other eyes watching her coming . . . and other voices ready to take up the glad shout . . . " Here she comes! " ~Henry Van Dyke

By now, I hope Dave has met up with my Mike, and they're enjoying a cold one together.

I see that Dave is just a few years younger than me. He may not have had a lot of years in his life, but it looks like he had a lot of life in his years.

And if your obit can bring a smile to people's faces, then you have done a good job!

One of the coolest things about Guinness is the ability of the head to "stand up" when touched. Dave taught me that...
