Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI just realized that with these poorly thought out openings, we are going to cross Trump's
Rubicon number of 100,000 well before November. He really is incredibly stupid, isn't he? All that film we have on him patting himself on his back if he can keep the number down to 100,000. But, unless we find an incredible silver bullet for treatment, we're going to pass that number and all we have to do is make a list.
Trump talks, but he doesn't take anything serious. He just thinks it's all going to go away, or he'll blame someone else. Not this time. We all have to remind him that he owns those numbers.

(52,285 posts)of course, these are only the official numbers. if we counted everyone who died at home from covid-19 without having been tested, we almost surely have had over 100,000 deaths already.
of course, donnie keeps moving the goalposts.
we won't know except in retrospect, but i strongly believe at this point that historians will estimate the total death toll when all is said and done as worse than the 1918 pandemic which is estimated to have taken 600,000 american lives.

(52,285 posts)but about 2,000 daily deaths with no reason to think that rate will go down in may even if red states didn't take those backwards steps....

Yet, he SAID that if he could keep the numbers to 100,000 it was a success.
JHU has been reporting on average roughly 2K US cases a day for the last two weeks.
They reported 66K total deaths yesterday afternoon.
That means the projected date of 100K total deaths is 19 May.
Even if deaths fell this moment to 1500 a day, 99K cumulative deaths would be reached 24 May.

We have to add them up ourselves, but in Seminole county the numbers are going up. Increase of 6 on Thursday, 13 on Friday, and 16 today. We're up to 395, residents + non residents.

(31,261 posts)There is enough public information about covid19 symptoms now and what is seen when people are dying or have died from it, so people like DeSantis can try to coverup facts all they want, that just blows up in their faces.

(46,753 posts)The actual number is much higher than I realized. Now I know why he's trying to fudge the numbers. This is going to turn into a scandal.

(31,261 posts)happens at a high rate, he just might as well not run for reelection in 2022, nothing will save him.
Florida is a state where a massive number of people use their personal vehicles to get around. Seldon do I ever seen more than two people in a vehicle while out. Florida doesn't have massive mass transit systems like NYC, Boston, Chicago, the Bay Area. There is some developing mass transit in the Orlando area, but that is in it's infancy when compared to other places. I believe that Florida not having a large amount of mass transit and city streets that have dense numbers of people on sidewalks at the same time is the factor that has kept it's covid19 infection numbers down, the same goes for a state like Georgia, Texas and areas like most of Southern California. But a big wildcard is entering the equation and I believe that is going to cause infection numbers in places like Florida, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Lousiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, ect to skyrocket. That wildcard is summer air conditioning. Places like Florida, Georgia, Texas don't use a lot of central heat during the winter, but use a lot of AC once Summer hits. AC provides an ideal environment for covid19. The Summer will bring widespread use of AC in offices, stores, all places where many people gather, in my view, if all people don't wear masks when in public, the probability of infection goes way up.

(7,947 posts)2000 deaths a day-- we've been averaging that, with new cases of 28K or so (and some of those will die in May).
So we'll probably be at 120K by Memorial Day.
He's already bragging that it should have been a million, so he won!

I just got a birthday party invite from friends for late June. They've asked about 30 people over to their house.
I didn't have the heart to tell them that I thought we'd be back in lockdown by then, with total death numbers around 85 to 90 thousand.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)They don't see the numbers dying that were first predicted, so they think that control procedures have been overdone (a claim frequently heard from the idiot "reopen" protesters).
I tend to agree that we are headed for a second, likely more draconian lockdown. Trump has not shown that he is capable of learning and leading like Merkel, the President of South Korea and Hong Kong, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, he is going to walk this country into a big disaster, all due to his extreme ignorance and arrogance.

(65,134 posts)23 days to Memorial Day.
1,500 per day is 34,500. That puts us at >100k.
Assuming linear decline, we'd have to be pushing zero deaths per day, since we're almost 3k per day now.
Unless a giant number of people, untested, have been infected and aren't getting sick, I don't see how it would be much less that 100,000 last week of May.

(1,977 posts)The discrediting campaign is what they are using now. The new talking point is that doctors are calling every death a covid death to get extra funding. The Gymnastics these people go to in order to rationalize their leader is insane.
