Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDoes Trump want to open the economy or does he want to keep it closed?
Does anyone know for sure? Do we have to wait to see which way the wind blows?
He said nothing about the armed rebellion entering the legislative building with automatic weapons, locked and loaded, as the Michigan legislature chose to wear bullet-proof Kevlar for protection. Something is not right with that picture.
Although he was the one that declared coronavirus a national emergency, he now seems to want to support those marching to open the government? It is difficult to interpret.
There is not enough leadership from this White House to even analyze. It is below zero.
As usual, we are faced with two choices, from two different directions? Either have an election or have an armed rebellion? Is that what the people in Michigan are saying?
We simply have no leadership in this time of crisis.

(112,491 posts)I think he is very calculating when he is trying to get out of these self-inflicted jams...

(11,078 posts)I agree, reading "calculating" and "Trump" in the same sentence just seems wrong somehow.

(11,885 posts)Without protective masks or adequate testing for personal political reasons, not for the welfare and health of the American people. He knows how badly he's failed and continues to fail , and ignores health professionals by allowing this to happen now. When this fails he will deny playing any part of this happening, when again he was the cause all along behind it. Trumps supporters are running from him now, and he knows it. Wait for his trying to prevent more direct stimulus money going to the people soon, then even more will turn on him and the GOP.

(38,187 posts)Then, he will reopen the economy and say he wanted to all along but those meanie Democratic governors wouldn't let him.
He'll make up something. That is for sure.
He has licked his finger, stuck it up in the air and cannot seem to figure out what will get him the most new worshipers. He cannot decide what he really thinks. So he keeps suggesting people do crazy things to themselves. He's not right in the head. He cannot form a thought beyond how great he thinks he is.
He wants people to worship him. He is seeing that is not going to happen. That depresses him, so he dopes up with crack/coke/whatever it is he does and runs his mouth some more.
The truth is, he does not know what he wants, other than people worshiping him all the time.

(17,757 posts)Perhaps he really wants to open the economy, but a later in the year so there may be an internal struggle between the CIC and his handlers. He would like to go into October with a great economic rebound. July, August or September may bee to early for him.

(5,887 posts)He sprinkles words like perhaps, maybe, possibly throughout his babbling. That way he can lay claim to whichever side wins out. He does it all the time, always trying to leave himself some wiggle room. Or as I like to say, weasel room. He is a master at it. Listen to him some time. He always leaves room to say, see, I was right.
By the way, being a master at this does not make him a hero or to be admired. If anything, it is one more reason to despise him. He never forcefully endorses anything. He almost always leaves an exit strategy no matter how he appears to be endorsing a position or policy. Weasel words are his stock and trade.
