General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe are broken. We will need more than one VP to fix us.
One to review/change federal tax policy and bring the economy back.
Another to rebuild international relations and to rebuild the State Department. Also, will need to sort out problems in the intelligence community. Actually this VP will need to fix the entire Executive Branch.
We will need for these candidates to punch hard and bring some entertainment and excitement to the campaign. The media is bored with Biden and desperately looking for some juice so they will just keep going with the bogus sexual harassment stories. Trump will win every news cycle with his insanity and the media will just keep talking about Biden maybe being the lesser of two evils.

(25,816 posts)Oh, wait. The Constitution calls for one of each.
My bad.

(32,606 posts)However, one would be designated as the person who becomes President if something happens. Guess they could just flip a coin.

(25,816 posts)it specifically spells out one of each would be the equivalent of prohibiting two.

Media 'bored' or not, I agree we need candidate(s) to punch hard and bring some entertainment and excitement to the campaign.
is why we have a cabinet.

(10,299 posts)Tasked with doing a very specific job. Beyond that of the traditional cabinet posts. Or a Presidential task force.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,589 posts)there's one vice president, not two (or more). The Cabinet Secretaries are supposed to do those things, at least they would in a normal government.

(32,606 posts)The President and Vice President originally did not even need to be from the same party.

(115,589 posts)The Twelfth Amendment says: "The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice."

(17,862 posts)at times that proposals have been made to also give them a cabinet position. They have only one job under the Constitution - President of the Senate. The only times they show up for that is when there are close votes and the State of the Union.
Biden should have an excellent Chief of Staff. I would assume he has made some agreements to consider high level surrogates for Cabinet positions if they wish them. The President has the Council of Economic Advisers and the National Economic Council (which is a joke under Trump given Kudlow is heading it).
