Then they wonder why the government isn’t working better to help people like them.

Would they want pacifists in charge of their military? Probably not.

It's all China's fault we have an awful leader who chose not take the threat of a global pandemic of a very contagious, very deadly virus seriously for two months (at least)

Nobody has trusted the Chinese numbers since the mess began. As for India, I am highly suspect of the country’s ability to test its people and I am also skeptical of its millions of poor citizens of being counted accurately. India’s hot and humid climate may also be a factor. I welcome any corrections to what I have said here.

The virus is hitting all of the US so for it not to have hit other cities of China as hard as it hit Wuhan seems unusual to me.

they know how to deal, we didn't do diddly. People here wont even wear masks- the most basic, easy thing you can do. Yes, evil China kicked our ass on this one, let's face it.

I don’t doubt the extensive Chinese lockdowns helped there; but the numbers from December - February still seem low. How low is the question.

Because they shut down when their rates were low

Cosmopolitan travelers do not mingle very much with lower caste.

India actually has pretty good contact tracing (I know it's hard to imagine, but maybe they do because they have more outbreaks of communicable diseases such as TB etc) I can't imagine doing successful contact tracing in the US for Covid.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/28/india/india-coronavirus-outbreak-explained-intl-hnk/index.html

Of course, this could change.

Kerala in Southern India on the Malabar Coast was the first state to have an outbreak, but I was very impressed with their intense contact tracing. It was almost militant. However, like the US, India has a huge difference in how each state handles things.

ETA: India is easing lockdown, so we will see what happens. The weather is really hot throughout most of the country right now.

However, while at 330 million, both China and India have a Billion more than that.

China locked down Wuhan pretty tight early in the game - our Western lockdowns were spotty and basically, way too late.

I think another factor is the amount of international travel to the USA (Canada too, especially Ontario and Quebec).

Other countries, especially in Asia, populations readily followed advice to wear masks - I haven't seen anyone wear any around where I live, I may be the first shortly as I just received an order of masks a few days ago - yeah, from CHINA. I still have some on order from Walmart.ca, did the China order weeks after that - found suppliers in the USA but constantly received feedback of "This item does not ship to Canada".

I have no idea what kind of World we are gonna have if/when this bug is under control. No cure, no vaccine - we've got a long way to go yet.

Our global economy is gonna have a whole different structure when this is over - it's just never going to be the same.

I've been doing the isolation thingy for over a month now - not a biggie - retired, on a fixed income and pretty much a loner anyhow. Younger people with families to feed, job losses etcetera are much worse off than myself, and their needs to support themselves may overwhelm any sense of danger and throw caution to the winds - making the bug thingy worse than it already is.

In short - I think we are in a real friggen mess here

His analysis was excellent. He basically said that it boils down to the fact that our hospital systems are different, ie. for profit vs non-profit. It lays it all out starkly. NY Times Canada Letter May 4th,.2020. I'm unable to link it.
