Coronavirus new cases/deaths seem to be way down today

Fewer than 1,000 deaths today, and yesterday it was down to 1,154. Before that we were getting between 1800-2900 deaths every day. Is this light at the end of the tunnel, or are there just fewer cases/deaths reported on Sundays and Mondays due to less reporting on the weekends?

Tomorrow if typical will be highest day of the week. Sometimes Wednesday as well.

There have been around 25,000-30,000 new cases daily for the past week.

It's difficult to tell how many people still have active cases, since most "recovered" figures I've seen appear to only be about people who have been hospitalized and released, with no resolution indicated for those who quarantined at home and eventually got over it. Still, whether you assume the average COVID-19 case lasts two, three, or four weeks after being diagnosed, the numbers show a similar pattern: cases peaked between 1-3 weeks ago, depending on the window used, went down a slight amount after a few days, and then basically flatlined. In other words, although we aren't seeing total active cases increase, there's no sign they're currently decreasing, either.
