"he believes he and his staff are young and healthy enough to survive COVID-19 if they contract" it

OC Restaurant Hits Capacity After Opening Doors, Ignoring Stay-at-Home Orders

--------

"I’m emotional," Jeff Gourey, the restaurant's owner, said. "It’s a bigger fight than for my restaurant. It’s for my people."

Fighting back tears, Gourey said he has 25 employees who rely on his payroll. His restaurant had been serving take-out only since mid-March, but that was bringing in just 10% of usual business.

Said Gourey, "How long do we hide from it, regardless? We can’t stop working. We can’t stop living."

With the sun shining on the Nomads deck Sunday, customers said they are tired of being stuck at home.

"I miss the interaction and being out," Lark Sampson, a customer said.

Rich Barry, another customer, added, "It feels extraordinary to be in a restaurant because it’s been six weeks."

Inside the restaurant, Gourey said he’s telling people to practice social distancing, but he says he believes he and his staff are young and healthy enough to survive COVID-19 if they contract the virus.

"Six weeks it plenty of time, that’s what I believe," Gourey said. "On a sunny day like this, no one is at risk."

If someone they love dies will they still feel so exhilarated having been out and in a restaurant...

That is just about the most stupid, childish attitude ever!!

Hell, some of them may already be infected but not symptomatic.

Apparently this owner doesn’t give a damn who they might infect.

Masks are gone. Two people out of 100 had on masks. 100 might be high not sure but a lot of people were there. Even blue states have gotten into the “its over” phase. Weird what a week makes.

Between "I think that's long enough" (oh goody--I'm sure you know better than the actual trained experts who study this stuff!)

and "on a sunny day, no one is at risk,"

I would be interested in checking out his shoes to see if they're marked "TGIF" to remind him that "Toes Go In First."

But I guarantee he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room at any given time. Too stupid to know how stupid he is.

can be sick for a surprisingly long time.

A niece of mine probably had it. She'd been to California at a large gathering in mid-March. After she returned to the Midwest she had a headache that wouldn't go away for a couple of weeks, chills, and a fever. She wasn't tested, in no small part because back then there were essentially no tests. She's 36 years old. Has recovered, thank you for asking. But it wasn't fun.

The essential thing the restaurant owner isn't even remotely considering is if any of his staff get the virus, they are highly likely to pass it on to the patrons.

Personally, I can't begin to predict when I will next eat in a restaurant.

Which means he screwed them over doubly by reopening. Unless he's the type who hires undocumented immigrants and pays them under the table.

and his minions for fostering such an attitude. Of course, the restaurant owner's empty skull is an ideal place to store this crap.

I am more than a little worried about the new aspect of this viral infection wherein young children appear to have Kawasaki, etc. after being infected, which includes inflammation of coronary arteries. There's no way to tell if getting the virus will infect you like that or not. How stupid to say, "We are young and healthy." If they get this virus, they probably won't be for long.

Easy for me to say, I don't own a restaurant, and I am not dependent on them. I like takeout, and I like Amazon. But, I think that this owner's problem is compounded by opening his mouth and showing us how stupid he is.

You're right about one thing: it is a bigger fight than for just your restaurant. But not the way you mean it.
