Trump cheers on governors as they ignore White House guidelines in race to reopen
These governors biggest cheerleader is President Trump.
A slew of states such as Texas, Indiana, Colorado and Florida have pushed forward with relaxing social distancing guidelines even as the number of people testing positive in many states has increased in recent weeks and testing continues to lag behind. White House recommendations released last month encouraged states to wait to see a decline in cases over a two-week period, as well as having robust testing in place for front-line workers before entering Phase One of a gradual comeback.
But Trump and some of his aides have backed away from their own guidelines, opting instead to hail the broad economic reopening that health experts say has started too quickly. The dichotomy comes as the White House also tried to distance itself from a draft federal government report predicting an explosion of new coronavirus cases and 3,000 daily deaths by June 1.

The price of reopening the economy: TENS OF THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN LIVES
It's one he now appears ready to pay, if not explain to the American people, at a moment of national trial that his administration has constantly underplayed.
Depressing new death toll projections and infection data on Monday dashed the optimism stirred by more than half the country taking various steps to reopen an economy that is vital to Trump's reelection hopes and has shed more than 30 million jobs. Stay-at-home orders slowed the virus and flattened the curve in hotspots like New York and California, but they have so far failed to halt its broader advance, leaving the nation stuck on a grim plateau of about 30,000 new cases a day for nearly a month.
New evidence of the likely terrible future toll of Covid-19 came on a day when Trump stayed out of sight -- his wild briefings that hurt his political prospects now paused -- meaning he could not be questioned on his enthusiasm for state openings in the light of new evidence.

Churches used as control group
Holcomb ending worship restrictions Friday
NIKI KELLY | The Journal Gazette
INDIANAPOLIS State officials addressed some progress in testing and government services Monday while also explaining why worship services don't have to follow gathering limitations.
Under the governor's new Back on Track plan, gatherings are limited to 25 throughout most of the state now, up from 10 people. But starting Friday, churches can meet for worship and other events with no limitations on the number of people attending.
We just thought a good place to start or have a control group, would be places of worship ... , Gov. Eric Holcomb said. But I did say we needed those church leaders to be responsible for their congregations. We can prove we can do this, and I think we'll see just that.

(6,820 posts), among numerous signs regarding 6 feet spacing, my wife and I get crowded by a couple of maskless inbreeds glaring ominously. May not be too long before mask vs maskless assault is common.
The future Faux news, "mask on mask crime up in city, man bites dog, children playing happily", "folks are beginning to realize that masked people are a threat to our freedom to prosper", "we at Faux news take no side on this obvious infringement of our right to live sarcastically".

(5,640 posts)I think you are right with your prediction. We will see mask vs maskless assaults. Especially, if the news media portrays masked people as a threat like you mentioned.
I guess we just have to steel ourselves to being outliers for the foreseeable future.
I know that I will be wearing a mask until I feel safe enough or there is a vaccine. So, I'll just have to be prepared to glare back at them...

(5,640 posts)Seems like they are just now releasing their report.
From the report;
Italy was one of the first countries to see the new virus in the last week of February, almost at the same time that the original strain appeared. Washington was among the first states to get hit with the original strain in late February, but by March 15 the mutated strain dominated. New York was hit by the original virus around March 15, but within days the mutant strain took over. The team did not report results for California.
