Barack and Michelle Obama will both deliver virtual commencement speeches after the novel coronavirus pandemic eliminated the possibility of in-person ceremonies for numerous students around the country.

The Obamas announced Tuesday morning that they'll be delivering the virtual speeches via YouTube on June 6....

Nothing can make up for the loss of the end of senior year, but this does make it special. My nephew has been taking it in stride and telling his mom he doesn't care about losing prom and graduation (while admitting to auntie that there is indeed sadness there).

As soon as he saw this, he was over the moon. It so strikes the perfect cord of "we're in this together" with "I'm in a special group."

5. when i heard oprah was doing the chicago speech, my heart sank some.

loves me some oprah, but after the idea of obama doing it was already floating around, i had my fingers crossed.

No idea what is going to happen with it now, but it isn't happening then.
