(2,075 posts)The one way valve is right up front between the filters.

(46,134 posts)Most cities don't have a strict code like that. In fact where I am at, DeWine first ordered masks as a requirement, then backed out. So you don't have to wear a mask at all (unless you want to).
All elastomeric respirators have a valve as far as I can tell, otherwise you couldn't breathe in them.
DetroitLegalBeagle
(2,075 posts)But it's better then nothing. The valve still reduces velocity of the exhaled air. Plus that mask with the p100 filters actually protect the wearer better then the cloth or disposable n95's.

(46,134 posts)They are designed to protect whoever wears them. So they will protect the person wearing them much better than surgical masks or homemade masks.
By the way, those homemade masks and surgical masks don't usually seal well around the face. There usually are gaps between the face and the mask. So air still escapes, which means you don't protect those around you a 100 % either, if you are wearing a surgical mask or a homemade mask.

Still, there are people running around with one-ply of cloth fabric over their mouths which reduces transmission somewhat but does f-all to seriously reduce the risk of inhaled particles from people not wearing masks.
So, yeah, I wear a cartridge respirator and put that one ply of fabric in front of the check valve.

(2,075 posts)The 2297 filters are easier to breath with, just a fyi. They are gray, not pink. Wish I got a 7500 series, but same as you, I bought mine like 2 years ago.

(46,134 posts)You never know how someone is going to react to the virus. There have been cases of perfectly healthy young people reacting very badly to this virus.
Maru Kitteh
(28,685 posts)because Im afraid its going to get much, much worse. For myself I would likely be saving the big guns for a time which I fear is not so far away.
Of course for myself, I am also factoring in the fact that I have N95 equivalent masks to wear. Given the choice between the respirator above and nothing, I would choose the respirator above every single time. Like I said, depends.
LisaL
(46,134 posts)whoever wears it better than disposable N95 mask.
Maru Kitteh
(28,685 posts)Which is why I referred to it as "the big guns."

(16,616 posts)It's very "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" I'd rather wear that than what I've got. I wonder if it comes in sea green?
LisaL
(46,134 posts)Color of it is the last thing you should be worrying about.

Mike 03
(16,616 posts)Actually, I don't mind the pink. I was just kidding around.

(2,075 posts)They are easier to breath through then the pink ones. Both filter the same though, with a P100 rating.

(46,134 posts)haven't been able to buy proper filters for it that would work against viruses. If I ever manage to buy them, I will totally wear it.

(825 posts)...who is a registered nurse sent us a couple of surgical masks last year before all of this started. We also had a couple of N95 masks from Home Depot when my wife was wanting to use oil based paint for painting in a bathroom last year. She never used the N95 and we are lucky to have a couple of each.
