I'm not going to show it here.
But it's out there.
And it's bad.
It's really, really bad.

(7,947 posts)refused to indict because he said that the guys in the pickup were performing a 'citizen's arrest'.
He had to then recuse because the one with the pistol had worked for his office.

(5,969 posts)but I'm not the kind of person who can watch these kind of videos.
But a question, the perpetrators claim that there was a struggle for the weapon which allegedly caused one of the aholes to shoot. Can this be verified on the video or was it bs? They belong behind bars either way, I'm just wondering whether we could see a repeat of Zimmerman.

(7,947 posts)An attorney told me, "Stand Your Ground does not apply to the dead person. It's designed to be a defense for the person who survives the encounter."
So the young man getting chased by armed men in a truck doesn't get to "stand his ground" and defend himself.
That actually is what the country prosecutor immediately decided-- that the man being chased was the "aggressor" because at some point he turned around and confronted the armed men who were chasing him. In a pickup truck.
There were three shots, apparently. One "citizen" was carrying a shotgun (this was the one wrestling with the victim). The other was in the bed of the truck with a handgun.
The victim, of course, was unarmed, but the prosecutor decided it was all his fault.
After the video surfaced, the prosecutor in the next county was appointed to take over and will take it to a grand jury. We'll see what happens. A prosecutor has to want an indictment -- unlike, say, the one in the Michael Brown/Ferguson case-- to get the grand jury to indict usually.

(5,969 posts)You just don't expect getting executed in public.
No idea why this kind of citizen arrest can have no consequences for those who provoked it. This will happen again and again. Maybe laws and perceptions would change if armed groups of people of color went around making "citizen arrests" and mowed everyone down who resisted.

(26,068 posts)No crime had happened. They just thought a gentleman taking a run was the guy who robbed construction stuff from an unfinished house two weeks prior, at night. But hey, the thief was a black guy, and this dude dressed in running clothes was a black guy running, so a criminal. JFC they called 911, then went a'hunting for escaped slaves.

looking to execute someone. I hope the current prosecutor takes it more seriously than the previous one.

There's no sugar-coating that video. It was straight-up murder.

(7,947 posts)This really is the new form of lynching-- Some white guys decide that this black man (or teen-- remember the kid in the closed car listening to rap music "too loud" ) has committed a crime, chase him down to do a "citizen's arrest", and of course they're carrying guns, and he "attacks them" and he just somehow ends up getting shot by the "arresters" who are "defending themselves".
At least back in the lynching days, there would be a few hours between the "arrest" and the "verdict and execution." Now it's 20 seconds.

(2,193 posts)...I think a link to a story with the video may be helpful so that one can choose to view or not view.

We do ourselves no favors by not witnessing the evil that others do.
The man looked like a jogger, had no tools or bags and this truck rolled up on him and just took him out.
Fucking Georgia.

I really hope public outcry forces some justice here. Racism is their ultimate fallback position because it stokes fear, and fear is their goal.

(9,895 posts)1) There was no chase on the video, the pick-up and two armed men were waiting in ambush for the jogger, who was clearly just jogging with nothing in his hands or carrying - obviously unarmed.
2) The jogger at first appeared to be trying to simply run around the pick-up, then the video gets out of focus on the events and obstructed in the view for a crucial second or two.
3) When the video gets obstructed, the jogger had reached the front of the truck and was clearly being accosted by the shotgun wielding man, though no audio could be discerned.
4) There is not so much a 'struggle for the gun' as what appears to be a 'struggle to not be shot'. Multiple shots are heard on the tape and seen in the air as well.
5) The ending is as horrific a scene as Laquan McDonald's execution by CPD (20Oct2014).
There is absolutely no doubt that the two armed men should be in jail awaiting trial for murder and accessory to murder right fucking now. And there is virtually no doubt - beyond a completely racist bullshit tortured explanation - that they should be convicted, sentenced and executed in turn (at least the shooter for sure...the pistol wielding person in the bed of the pick-up should also be executed if he fired on the unarmed man too).
The mere fact that excuses are already made and floated for a crime this heinous is sickening. I won't say surprising, because in Trump's AmeriKKKa, we are THE shit-hole nation without a challenger to be seen.

(9,952 posts)So these two murders have been living life for two months and only now may be held accountable for murder because of the video. And people watching it, clearly showing murder, and able to be outraged.
