Hubby and I both want to lose weight
We calculated what our max caloric intake should be and have started today. I should have 1600 to lose weight go to 1300 well, I am trying to stay under 1000 the first couple weeks
This is my daily diet
Breakfast:
1 Banana
Lunch:
1 cup lowfat cottage cheese
Snack
10 grapes
3 sweet gherkin pickles
Dinner:
2 cups of salad with 2 Tbls dressing
6 oz Fish or Chicken or Burger
Snack:
choice
Cottage cheese
1 cup cereal with milk
5 pieces beefstick/cheese
I am a pepsi holic -normally I would drink 5-7 a day
I am limiting myself to only 2 for right now with a goal to none unless we go to dinner
so it is almost 8 pm and I still can have the nightly snack.
This might get a little ugly!!!
Hubby is doing similar but different choices

(2,220 posts)Part of it is having hubster working at home and sitting down to lunch with him every day. I didnt always eat lunch when he was at work. Most of it, though, is stress eating. I swear Ive worn a path from the sofa to the kitchen. Not good.

(13,582 posts)had much effect on that. I rely on exercise to allow me to eat more as well as burn calories. Just a one hour walk lets me have a whole extra meal.

(34,069 posts)An hour of walking isn't much more than about 200-250 calories.

(13,582 posts)Most meals are closer to 400, so I can work out some combination that lets me have four meals, or three with a pretty substantial snack.

(102,247 posts)restaurant, which I haven't been to in more than a year.
She just brought over more than a quart of freshly made salsa (heavy on the cilantro--yeah!) and a BIG BIG BIG bag of restaurant-style tortilla chips to thank me for caring for her dog last month.
Yumm. (and yes, I'm certain no one in her house has COVID-19, so not worried about eating the salsa--they've not left their house in weeks).

(34,108 posts)On the farm things are not really different than they were before but I do not have to leave for appointments and the store stuff is just picking things up. Cooking so much more and I really do not want to eat much after I cook it. Garden going in, regular horse barn chores etc. I needed to lose it and feel so much better.

(115,683 posts)but it's been quite intentional. I've lost 23 lbs. since the middle of January, about half of it since the shutdown started. I don't go out to shop but instead get my food delivered (I'm that paranoid), and I order only food that fits the diet (Atkins/Keto). Since I don't go to a grocery store to shop I don't get tempted by the sight of it to buy sweet or carb-heavy food. I'm used to the diet now and it seems to be working. Hoping for another 20 or so by the end of the summer (I don't expect it will be safe to go out for a very long time).

(8,329 posts)Been staying in and taking the dogs on shorter walks and letting them romp in the back yard all day.
There are so many people out walking, I dont feel like I have any space. I have been going out before 7 but it still seems there are too many people out.

(12,388 posts)About 1300 cals, 1-2 mile walk, half hour of hard rock and roll dancing (till Im dripping sweat), all daily. Booze once or twice weekly in evening.
I lost 30+ pounds last year and I REFUSE to let some crappy virus make me gain it back. I cant control a murderous psychopath or a killer virus, but I need power over something and this is where I take a stand.

After getting back from Arizona in early February, all I have gained is 2 pounds. I do not eat carbs like breads, pastas, potatoes, rice, corn, beans, soy based products. I am so avoid all dairy, save for a few ounces of cheese a week.
I follow a mix of Weight Watchers and Keto with lean proteins, healthy fats, low carb veggies and fruits.. I do take vitamins, extra Calcium, and D3. I have been eating like that for 15 months and keep well under my Weight Watchers goal.
There is no need to gain weight, but I understand easier said than done. Portion sizes are important. Keeping track, getting in movement, keeping positive will helps.

(14,275 posts)I bike one day. Walk the next. Take Friday off.
I have not noticed any change in the size of my thighs. The only thing on me thats grown over the last 6+ weeks is a beard.

(1,156 posts)Please be careful! 1000 calories a day is less than most people need to function.

(14,642 posts)Only my doc puts that number at 1400 calories. Anything less, and you mess up your metabolism, burn lean muscle, and set yourself up for a larger weight gain.

(25,854 posts)I'm hoping to lose some weight, but we'll see.
March 1 -18th I was on a cruise to Hawaii. I made a point of not eating too much so I wouldn't gain weight, which is incredibly common for most cruisers. I was successful.
Since coming home, I've had no problem keeping my intake at a point where I'm at least staying the same.
Oh, as to the pepsi intake, cut it out entirely. If it's the regular, you don't need that sugar. If it's the diet version, the chemicals in it are deadly. For one thing, the chemicals in artificially sweetened soft drinks tend to leach calcium from the bones. So switch to water. Plain water.

(34,069 posts)10 since the lockdown.
I'd put on weight since my cancer diagnosis 4 years ago - and had gotten sloppy about carb counting (to control diabetesl). Dr. wants to put me on statins - not thrilled with that idea - so we made a deal that I'd clean up my act and we'd take another look in 3 months.
At the 3 months checkup in late January, the A1C was down from 7.something high to 6.3 (still higher than I want) - but the doctor forgot to order the cholesterol tests. He thought he had me because (1) he didn't believe I'd make improvements when meant (2) he thought he could pressure me into statins without the promised cholesterol tests.
Once I get on a roll, I'm usually pretty good - so I've been continuing my health improvement progress in lockdown (and people will be very surprised when I emerge, since it will be a dramatic change - rather than the subtle day-by-day change).

So with that little bit of luck, if you can call it that, I lost 15 pounds, and my big challenge is keeping it off. I can't claim any virtue or credit!

(29,658 posts)for 16 hours???
16/8 intermittent fasting involves limiting consumption of foods and calorie-containing beverages to a set window of eight hours per day and abstaining from food for the remaining 16 hours.
This cycle can be repeated as frequently as you like from just once or twice per week to every day, depending on your personal preference.
16/8 intermittent fasting has skyrocketed in popularity in recent years, especially among those looking to lose weight and burn fat.
While other diets often set strict rules and regulations, 16/8 intermittent fasting is easy to follow and can provide real results with minimal effort.
Its generally considered less restrictive and more flexible than many other diet plans and can easily fit into just about any lifestyle.
In addition to enhancing weight loss, 16/8 intermittent fasting is also believed to improve blood sugar control, boost brain function and enhance longevity.

(8,703 posts)I did it to drop my blood pressure and it works. The less I eat, the better my blood pressure is. Its easier to just do it every day - then it becomes a habit. You can have coffee with cream till noon - so I basically eat two meals a day.

(17,154 posts)Started around the time Paleo Pete promoted his Paleo diet scam. Being a history & earth sciences lover, I pondered what, exactly, would the eating habits be of folk in the 'old stone age' or the paleolithic.
They were hunter-gatherers, so their diet would have depended very much on seasonal variations and availability of meat. Since breakfast didn't really exist until medieval times, I imagine they would have hunted, gathered (with varying degrees of success), and made and repaired tools and implements all day; I imagine they would have had one large meal after the day's activities, then slept. I don't believe they had a guarantee of meat every day.
I eat one good sized meal a day at around 4.30 - 5pm, mostly vegetable based, chicken or fish once or twice a week. I don't get hungry before that time, possibly because I've persisted and my body has become used to this regimen. I feel terrific, blood sugars are good and I've lost 25 kg in total. As a rule, no sugar but this is not inflexible. Only drinks are a couple of coffees in the morning, water and a little red wine.

(14,642 posts)Ive been working out daily since MF45 took office. Never been more fit . Be careful with that diet. Its not enough calories. And you should add exercise to build muscle. You could lose weight in the short run but ruin your metabolism in the long run. I learned that the hard way.

(63,221 posts)I just don't get as hungry at home as I do at work. I think I stress eat at work, and I am not stressed at home so I only eat when I am hungry, which is not very often and not very much.
Every time I have not been working - I have only been unemployed twice in my life - I have dropped a lot of weight without much effort. Something about being in a work environment makes me want to eat more.

(20,629 posts)to those even if they weren't looking to lose weight. I know plain water gets boring in a hurry, but the sparkling waters without sweetener are a great alternative. I also do a 1:3 ratio of sports drinks in water, just adding some flavor and a small amount of calories. Unsweetened green tea and coffee round out my non-alcoholic beverage range.
