Even if the victim were a robber and was running down the street with a sack full stolen goods, vigilantes can’t just shoot someone down like that. The video — and resultant protests — sealed these armed killers’ fate. Hopefully, no George Zimmerman BS in this one.

someone who they witness committed a felony (Citizen's Arrest). Usually this is used by stores. Also you are allowed to hot pursue to recover property stolen from you.

In this case they had absolutely no justification to do anything. They could legally follow him (for what I really don't know given the shaky excuse they gave) and give his location to law enforcement. What they should never be able to do is brandish weapons (somehow laws need to be in place for slinging long guns - holding them in their hands is brandishing).

pull a shotgun on him, and murder him because he fought back. Just like Trayvon Martin.

I’m sure until video surfaced, vigilantes were saying they thought he’d just robbed someone.

If they witnessed him doing something illegal earlier, using a cell to record it would have worked, just like a cell caught their assault on the jogger.

15. Father and son charged with murder of unarmed black man Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia
Thu May 7, 2020, 08:38 PM
May 2020

Two men have been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault for the February shooting of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son, Travis McMichael, 34, were arrested on Thursday and will be booked into the Glynn County Jail.
Cellphone video showing the moment has prompted national outrage since surfacing online this week, but his mother said she can't bring herself to watch it.

"I don't think I'll ever be in a mental state where I can actually watch the video. I had others that watched it that shared what they saw and that just was enough," Wanda Cooper-Jones told ABC News in an interview that aired Thursday on "Good Morning America."

In the 28-second video, Arbery, who is black, can be seen jogging around a neighborhood just outside the port city of Brunswick on a sunny afternoon in late February. The footage ends with two loud gunshots.

It was obviously made by someone driving down the street, approaching the scene as the shooting happened. Did the police have the video all along? If so, why did the cops not make it public? Were they protecting an ex-cop? And did the witness release video on his/her own because the cops were covering up for the shooters and hadn't charged them?

Three armed white vigilantes, in two cars, hunting down a lone young black jogger, boxing him in then shotgunning him as he struggles to escape. The third guy captured the murder on his smartphone, probably to post it on Stormfront or some other Klan site to show how they deal with blacks in Brunswick. If as reported, this videographer is an accomplice and should also be arrested.

I'm assuming now the cops had this video all along. They didn't release it for obvious reasons and someone, another cop or investigator perhaps, leaked it, putting it up on social media whete it could not be ignored. The local police department should be investigated for a possible cover up.

At which point, they will get away with everything.

Or will the DA demand a 1st degree murder charge, knowing the evidence doesn't support premeditation?

48. Biden slams Arbery shooting as 'grave injustice,' demands investigation
Thu May 7, 2020, 10:33 PM
May 2020

Joe Biden, the apparent Democratic presidential nominee, on Thursday addressed the brutal attack of black man in Georgia, who was chased and gunned down by two white men, saying the incident amounted to a lynching “before our very eyes” and demanding a “transparent investigation.”

Biden, in his first public comments about the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, called the attack a “grave injustice that claimed a life” and “that resonates in so many ways across threads of our history into the present day.”

No arrests have been made in Arbery’s shooting.

“By now many of us have seen that harrowing footage of Ahmaud Arbery out on a jog on a beautiful day in February in Florida, in Georgia, shot down in cold blood, essentially lynched before our very eyes, 2020 style,” Biden said during a virtual roundtable in Jacksonville, Fla., with local African-American lawmakers.

“This family and the country deserves justice and they deserve it now. They deserve a transparent investigation of this brutal murder. But our nation deserves it as well. We need to reckon with this, this goes on. These vicious acts call to mind the darkest chapters of our history,” Biden said.
