Father, son charged with murder in Brunswick Ga. shooting

Greg McMichael, who provided gun cover for his son as he fought and eventually shot a young black jogger, may have known the victim long before their encounter in a subdivision just south of Brunswick, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has learned.

McMichael, a former Glynn County cop, told Glynn police he recognized Arbery, 25, from surveillance video that captured a recent burglary in his mostly white neighborhood. He said he planned to make a citizen’s arrest.

Arbery’s parents have demanded the McMichaels be arrested. Atlantic Judicial Circuit District Attorney Tom Durden said Tuesday he would ask a grand jury to consider criminal charges.
Gov. Brian Kemp told reporters Thursday the video was “absolutely horrific and that Georgians deserve answers.”
“I told Director Reynolds to follow the facts, follow the truth and to administer justice,” Kemp said, referring to GBI Director Vic Reynolds. “I have no doubt in my mind, it will be fair and Director Reynolds and his seasoned team of investigators will work very quickly and will also be very thorough.”
Late Thursday afternoon GBI agents were canvassing Satilla Shores, the subdivision where Arbery was killed.

would tell anyone spotting a suspect (real or imagined) to call the police, not to make a "citizen's arrest."

I hope both the father and son receive just deserts.

This was a NRA lynching. Only when it threatened to be a national story for more than a week, and thus set into people's minds, did they act.

You don't get to make a citizen's arrest cuz you think they might be the same person in a video.

I am 99.9 percent against the death penalty, but I would like to see these two get it.

They need to be an example.

How about we start releasing the records of the perpetrators? Its only fair. If you think that someone's past background somehow played a part in their murder. How about reporting on the cop's record? Let's see if he or she had questionable shootings, charges of abuse or racism in their record?

Hopefully justice will be done.

copy. "Kemp said, if requested, the GBI would take over the investigation into the shooting. Within an hour, Durden accepted the offer and on Wednesday morning, agents hit the ground. "

Where in the police academy hand book do they teach you to pull a gun on a man that is simply jogging through a neighborhood? These men are entitled to a fair trial, but if they are found guilty they need some serious prison time.

You call the cops, make a report and give them a copy of the video, and then let the cops handle it. You do not ambush a jogger and shoot him in cold blood with a shotgun.

The McMichaels' story has changed more than once so far, and I don't believe the surveillance video angle for a second. I hope both of these creeps go to jail, and everyone who covered for them loses jobs and also gets charged accordingly.

Oh, man. That takes the cake. How many people plan a citizen's arrest? That's not even a situation that warrants it. It is more like premeditated murder.

If somebody robs your "neighborhood" you call the police. They investigate. If somebody saw them you give a description.

If you think you see that person jogging down the street. Call the police. There are cell phones now. If you are that concerned about it, even if its not your business really, you can follow at distance until the cops arrive.

Their whole alibi is full of bullshit. This was cold blooded murder and sounds like another racist assassination.
