5. "Chinese virus" and pretending it will all be back to normal when we open

I am kind of disappointed with the way MSNBC is talking about this. While I understand that not everyone is going back to work when we open, at least 50-75% of the unemployed will go right back at work when we open. They are talking about this as if none of the 15% unemployed rate people are going back.

9. I agree wholeheartedly that we shouldn't open too soon

And even when we eventually open up, we will have to take the protective measure to make sure the virus doesn't spread too fast (it is not going to be gone magically even if we wait another 2 months before opening). That means no big gathering, wear a mask when we are out and about, less close personal contacts (handshake, hugs, etc).

However, it's also wrong to talk about this unemployment rate as if it will continue for years to come. This really really bad unemployment rate is largely because we closed down. When we open up again, it will go down by at least 50-75%. But yes, we should still make sure the 25% or so people that get left out will be able to survive before they find their next job.

11. You and I will do all that, but many (most?) others will again ignore the rules.

I have a very gloomy feeling about how this will all unfold.

Unfortunately, I knew early on back in February/March that I should wear mask when I am out and about. I even said it on this board while most people were saying the experts were saying mask for sick or medical staffs. I know American with their "freedom" so it's impossible to get them to follow rules. I assume everyone else have the virus when I am out because I can't believe these people (without mask) that they protect themselves. Wearing mask outside is a sign that you take the virus seriously so other people can trust you. Without that trust, I unfortunately have to assume everyone has it.

16. Who is responsible for publishing the numbers? They will all be fired and investigated by DOJ.

In that order.

Meantime, Jared has already prepared the "real" unemployment numbers, and he will publish them as soon as he takes over the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That will be tomorrow.
