Who knows how it started but if you dont think the Trump regimes response to the pandemic is some sort of a calculated racist final solution you are naive.

Wow. Yeah, he might be right. I can clearly imagine Stephen Miller having that conversation.

(3,401 posts)I know Trump is too ignorant to develop a strategic plan and certainly has no discipline to follow through with one. But he is easily manipulated through his ignorance by more intelligent but cunning and evil advisors.

(62,414 posts)At least that was my interpretation of the order for meat packing plants to stay open as their infection rates exploded. Especially since the workers in meat packing is heavily Hispanic.
Final solution? I think more like yet another shot to let POC that they are not considered real citizens.

Scorpion and Frog.
They have two singular priorities - graft as much as humanly possible and win reelection at any cost.
They only know a few tricks.
Bull shitting, playing the victim and attacking and lying and cheating.
They literally don't care one minuscule bit about actually governing or public policy.

(48 posts)Coal bunker fires, while not common, were not unknown on warships of the time. Neither were catastrophic ammunition explosions. It wasn't until after WWI that more stable explosives came into use.
That said, was the explosion of the USS Maine politically useful? Absolutely.

(43,161 posts)Trump promised to make the "ghettos" safe again. I don't remember if the word "clean" was used, as in "clean out", but it was something I remember distinctly. I think this was around April 2016. a few weeks after he gave the "my African American" reference to a man at one of his rallies.

She probably won't go out like Eva Braun did, but the other parallels are there.

Im not saying its deliberate but I think they just dont particularly care about the people who are likeliest to die.

(570 posts)Taken one at a time, these could be seen as incompetence. Let's face it, that's what we've come to expect from this president. But when you step back and look at the actions and inactions as a whole, a pattern - a very ugly pattern emerges.
1) Dr. John Campbell., a professor of nursing in the UK, in his Thursday, May 7th Global Pandemic Update on Youtube outlined findings by the UK gov of epidemiology which found that even with mitigating for socioeconomic disparities, locales, etc. that people with darker skin are up to twice as likely to die from covid-19 than whites. Dr. Campbell believes it's a function of Vitamin D deficiencies, and he is vocal about the need to start testing for it.
2) Yale professor has come out and made the case that Trump's pandemic response is "genocide by default."
3) Prisons are getting hard with no mitigation efforts in place. The US criminal unjustice system has incarcerated minorities at far higher rates than whites.
4) Food production, especially meat packing plants are also getting hit hard, which means that the minority communities they draw their workforces from are also getting hit hard. No requirements for meat packing plants to shut down while the places are cleaned and alter the way they operate. Instead, workers are being threatened with losing any unemployment benefits if they don't return to their jobs.
5) We still have internment camps along the border that have COVID-19 spreading throughout them. But instead of doing anything other than purchasing N95 masks for ICE, immigrants are rapidly being deported. Mexico, Central American and Caribbean countries have all accused the US of deliberately deporting those who are already sick.
When the Tutsi fled Rwanda into the DRC, tens of thousands died from Cholera. Just because it was a virus killing them instead of bullets doesn't mean it was any less genocide. It doesn't have to be a gun or a gas chamber. It can be done by selectively refusing to provide supplies to cities that have a lot of immigrants and minorities like New York, LA and Chicago or states like Michigan and Washington.
Then there's the stolen medical supplies. The National Guard is protecting Maryland's testing supplies from being confiscated by the feds. FEMA took 500 ventilators from the state of Colorado then Trump returned 100 as a personal favor to the GOP senator up for re-election this year.
The Trump administration with Stephen Miller, Pence, Trump is letting the virus do the dirty work, but the pattern is there.
We are witnessing genocide.

(14,573 posts)And for guys like Grover Norquist, the deaths of millions of elderly Americans would serve to reduce the 'dependency' on Social Security is a beneficent bi-product of the pandemic. In his mind, Social Security ought to be privatized anyway.
Basically, we are living through the end stages of capitalism, which is showing us that it is unsustainable.
Note that I'm talking about Wall Street and big multi-national publicly held corporations like General Electric, where the CEOs have to focus on shareholder earnings at the expense of everything else, and the concomitant attitude about small government - tax cuts, privatization, deregulation and gutting social programs.
THAT is end stage capitalism, and it is a system that is simply NOT geared for our benefit.
Polarization, lies, racism, 'scientific' studies that produce 'data' that the corporate interests that paid for the studies want (known as non-replicable studies), the constant drumbeat about how government is the enemy, feckless removal of regulations that keep us safe, the constant drumbeat against socialism...all that is set up to uphold greed and to keep us from organizing around human need.
But it's falling apart. I'm hearing Pelosi is now talking about a universal basic income of $2,000 per American. Lots of talk about Medicare for All, too.

(2,538 posts)helping someone who they think of as 'other'. That includes those of other races, classes, genders, and political parties. If someone they consider inferior will be affected, they don't give a whit.
I'm also sure their response is automatic, that they don't even consider the unfairness of it for one second. It's a 'we are the winners' mindset and everyone else be damned.
