(63,168 posts)Current research suggests that they'll hasten their recovery if they wipe their asses with that stupid Confederate participation trophy that they worship.
If they don't abandon their idiocy after this, then fuck them. I'm sorry for their family members, but mostly because I'm sorry that their family members are related to a proudly stupid shithead who went out of his way to contract a potentially lethal infection.

I hope they have a really complete case of the virus. Then they can go tell everyone how "it's just like the flu"!

(28,313 posts)get their fever down from 104.1 for three days. Fuck that shit. They don't DESERVE the scant and precious resources of their community meant to provide for the healing of those who contracted this hoax without fault. They sure as fuck don't deserve the care and attention of a single nurse or any HCW.
If I found out my patient had contracted COVID by protesting against my safety, you can be sure they would receive from the the standard of care required by my licence and NOT ONE LITTLE BIT MORE.

When those people no longer can walk 50 yards without being out of breath, hopefully that turns on a light in their heads and they warn others against doing what they did.

(38,187 posts)That is all they are doing. It sums up their behavior perfectly. They are being as stubborn as they can be, just for the sake of bring stubborn, and standing in an echo chamber with others who think the same way. They pat each other on the back for being stubborn, but who is proudest of being stubborn becomes a "one-upsmanship" type situation. Then, they vie for the title of being most stubborn and most proud of their stubbornness.
No matter how stupid the stance they take is, they stick to it and are proud of sticking to it. That is their goal and their favorite thing to do in life. "Sticking it to the libs."

(38,187 posts)Cooper has opened NC as well now. So, even Democratic governors are now caving to those terrorists. This is going to be horrid. I hope I can find a way to get groceries online enough to survive. I wish I could get hot dog buns online without it being so expensive. I do have some of my vegan hot dog chili coming.
I don't need the hot dog weenies themselves. Ketchup and the chili carried me through homelessness when I could scrape enough together to buy the chili and buns. The rest of the time, it was Hardee's ketchup packets made into soup and crackers from Wendy's. If you were quick about it and didn't take too much from each store's supplies inside, you could manage ketchup soup the rest of the time.
Things are going to get dire for those of us in red states trying to survive. I might end up taking up fishing again, but that is mercury poisoning from the leftover hazardous waste from textiles mills and whatever it keeping the mercury levels high nowadays too. So, I could only eat fish once in a while without permanently damaging my health anyhow.

(3,282 posts)a could weeks ago that said if 1% of the population was infected, an event with 200 had about a 6 in 7 chance of having atleast one infected person there and it could be as high as 9 infected people. So, it's not a shock that many people were infected at a large rally where little precaution was being taken, however, I doubt 72 people were infected directly at the rally.
Instead we have to figure that being at the rally makes you much more likely to disregard social distancing guidelines as well as take less overall precaution to protect yourself from the virus. That tracks if you are willing to put yourself into that kind of risk. So, I think anyone at the rally is at a much higher than average risk of contracting the virus in their day to day life. We should expect that rally attendees will have a higher rate of infection than an equally sized group take at random.
Let me also note that in the model I ran a 5% rate of infection in the population as well, and that was off the charts bad. Basically it was nearly assured that an infection would be present and there could be as many as ~25 (I can't recall the exact number but it was close to mid 20s). In that case 72 infections at the rally would be more possible.
I'm assuming that all 72 infections are symptomatic and that's how they were found. If that's the case there would be many, many more asymptomatic cases stemming from it was well.
druidity33
(6,444 posts)My understanding is that ONE person in the right position may have been able to infect damn near the whole crowd. Did they have to walk through a tunnel to get onsite? Was there someone checking people in? Did they share an elevator or car-ride or joints?
BGBD
(3,282 posts)I don't know how to include idiots in my model, I'm not that good yet. I heard stories about people offering free hugs and stuff, if one of them were infected they would have really moved it through the group.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)It is a good guess that anyone at that rally felt that taking precautions against SAR-COV-2 was a waste of their time. So if they didn't get infected at the rally, they got infected being careless elsewhere.

Also.. How is it we have plenty of tests for these maroons, daily tests for whitehouse folk, But not enough for the senate?

(5,969 posts)I assume it's way more likely that those got tested because they showed symptoms. There could be many more without symptoms and who are still carriers, happily infecting others and who therefore prolong this pandemic.
I'd say if they realize how they brought this disease to their relatives and friends, maybe with severe consequences, they'd reconsider their behavior. There is a chance that some of them caused people dying but we all know these type of people. They are the ones who said freedom or death and considering their lack of empathy, they probably won't regret what they did.

(1,375 posts)The 72 that tested positive were not asked if they attended the rally, and the Wisconsin Health Department says they cannot be linked to the rally. When the patients are tested, they are asked if they attended any large events, and 72 said yes.
That did not specifically say what the large event was, nor does it quantify what someone might think is a large event. So to say 72 people that went to the rally got Covid isnt accurate.

(31,261 posts)People that attended "large" events either stupidly went to a party, or went to the protest or meetings about the protest. At any rate, they were foolishly not following advice from medical experts.

(37,748 posts)"The main function of the masks for non medical people is to keep people from touching their faces."
former9thward
(31,923 posts)Which you obviously did not read.
But since you bring up masks the World Health Organization and experts say that. Of course many wish to ignore them and instead rely on anonymous internet posters...
Wearing a mask can also reduce the propensity for people to touch their faces, which happens many more times a day than we all realise and is a major source of infection without proper hand hygiene, said Stephen Griffin, an associate professor at Leeds Universitys Institute of Medical Research.
The World Health Organizations advice is that if you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if:
** you are caring for someone with suspected or confirmed COVID**19 infection
** you are coughing or sneezing yourself, or suspect you might have COVID**19.

(31,261 posts)smallish indoor spaces. My guess is those people met at homes or small meeting places before and likely after the rally. In a situation like that, only 1 infected person initially would have ended up infecting a large amount of people via secondary and tertiary transmissions. At one time, it was believe that 3 people started the transmission of the virus in NYC, but due to it being NYC, my guess is there were a lot more initially infected people setting things off there.

(11,949 posts)Read it. All we know is these people attended a large gathering. The election was included in that event.
There is absolutely no evidence tying the protest into the new cases.
While I have no doubt the protest did spread the virus, DU is a fact based site. Not rumor or desire based site. Which is why I have a DU membership but not a Facebook membership.
