When is a business open, when there's an "Open" sign in the window or when there are customers?

As Carville says, "it's the economy, stupid." I think folks are so caught up in the recklessness, callousness, and science-blind ignorance of the Trump/Republican version of "reopening" that we may forget that it's also economically dumb. Sure, it will kill people and cause suffering, but it will also fail.

It doesn't matter that a business is technically open if it has no customers and, therefore, no revenue. The Republican push for "reopening" is not just reckless, it's economically pointless and stupid. Business as usual can't return until there is a decent "usual" to return to for both businesses and customers. Customers don't go to restaurants and stores only to buy things. They also go to have a good time and be around other people. That's gone if everyone's wearing masks, stuck two tables away from one another, and jumping out of their skins every time someone sneezes.

A business friendly level of normality is exactly what the ineptitude, arrogance, and bungling of Trump and his Republican stooges is keeping from us all. We need leadership. We need a plan. No one's going to feel normal until we get this virus under some kind of competent control. That means testing, organizing, teaching, communicating the truth...

Incapable of leadership and competence, Trump and his Republican Stooge Party are pushing the idea that leadership and competence are not necessary. Just be "warriors." Just take the turkey out of the oven two hours early, set the table, and choke it down. No, it's Trump/Republican stupidity and ineptitude that are not necessary. They all need to be voted out of every single office in November.

Sign says Open but there are NO customers

I think we’re going to “clear” rooms like the do in police shoes.

Some of these businesses are going to be worse-off by reopening. It's one thing for a business to be open for business. It's quite another thing for those businesses to have customers to do business. Whether that business has 1 customer or 100 customers, they're still going to have to have their lights on and whatever else it takes to run their business. Meaning, their utilities are going to cost the same. However, for a business to "break-even," that business needs a certain amount of people to spend money. If they don't meet that threshold, some of these businesses might be better off keeping their lights off and staying closed.

No doubt. They know people are getting the extra $600 a week in unemployment benefits. I wouldn't doubt quite a few businesses are only going to pay their employees just enough so that they're barely over the threshold where those employees lose their unemployment benefits.

Monday! Hairdressers, nail salons and restaurants! All the important stuff. Waiting for the thrift store i work at to reopen. It was on the rocks even before this. Wonder what happens if they decide to give us 15 hrs a week instead of 40. No unemployment i bet.
