Anxious About the Virus, Older Voters Grow More Wary of Trump

WASHINGTON — The coronavirus crisis and the administration’s halting response to it have cost President Trump support from one of his most crucial constituencies: America’s seniors.

For years, Republicans and Mr. Trump have relied on older Americans, the country’s largest voting bloc, to offset a huge advantage Democrats enjoy with younger voters. In critical states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Florida, all of which have large older populations, Mr. Trump’s advantage with older voters has been essential to his political success; in 2016, he won voters over the age of 65 by seven percentage points, according to national exit poll data.

But seniors are also the most vulnerable to the global pandemic, and the campaign’s internal polls, people familiar with the numbers said, show Mr. Trump’s support among voters over the age of 65 softening to a concerning degree, as he pushes to reopen the country’s economy at the expense of stopping a virus that puts them at the greatest risk.

A recent Morning Consult poll found that Mr. Trump’s approval rating on the handling of the coronavirus was lower with seniors than with any other group other than young voters. And Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., the presumptive Democratic nominee, in recent polls held a 10-point advantage over Mr. Trump among voters who are 65 and older. A poll commissioned by the campaign showed a similar double-digit gap.

I guess older "conservatives", (which they would be, unlike the current Neo-Liberal Republicans) are also going to be slow and conservative about changing their minds about someone who is trying to kill them, too.

You would think that once it was clear that Republicans in general and Trump in particular have no concern about seniors in this pandemic, (well, in most other ways, too) and have implied they are expendable, were going to die soon anyway, etc., it wouldn't be hard to snap out of their possibly lifelong devotion to being Republicans and voting for "their side".

This would be a very good time to realize who is for you and who is against you. When it is a matter of life and death, getting your priorities straight is crucial and matters much.

Why not realize that first, modern Republicans are NOT what were the conservatives of the pre-Reagan era. They have morphed into money-grubbing cronies bent on building the MIC up at the expense of the general population. They do not stand for the values they give lip service to. They have become a facade of lies and dirty deals. They are a malignancy that spreads a vile and hateful message and they are nothing but barriers to the kind of progress that is now absolutely essential in this century. We cannot survive without doing that and the Republican Death Cult is a scourge of doom that casts a dark specter over the land which is the shadow of favoritism and oligarchy, Lords and Serfs.

If there was ever a time that people realize that voting Republican these days is the equivalent of voting completely against your own best interests, (unless you are a conniving scoundrel who's pockets they line or who gets the favors) and if you expect something from them, don't hold your breath, but maybe prepare for an untimely death.

I’d hoped and prayed that enough American voters would have a change of heart and would turn away from what the Republican Party was becoming. Up until the Election Night of 2016, I’d hoped that the American electorate would choose the path of a soft landing and turn away from the madness.

After over three years of Trump, it looks like even some of the most stubborn, fact-free and pig-headed voters are realizing that they were and still being scammed.

I hope and pray that they stay wised-up.

proclaim to go ahead and let the CV run roughshod over the elderly, over the sick, etc. Especially the idiot in TX. People like this should be forbidden to ever run for a state government again (or any government position) being that they clearly aren't in it for the people.

People have habits when it comes to say Grocery Shopping. I go on Tuesday evening or Wednesday Morning. Slowest time for Store Traffic. BTW,middle of the month and later,SS checks hit the bank accounts so that drives the habit. Noticed the local Trumpers not wearing Masks during the first part of April, well that change as the Month past. This past Wednesday was my trip to the Grocery and was also doing our neighbors shopping list as well, funny how the local Trumpers were wearing masks,at least the majority. Sad to say,AA and Hispanic folks not so much, especially the younger families.

Now with the Barbers and Salons as well as Restaurants opening today, there is no way in Hell we are going near any Retail Store for two weeks.
