A lot of people are shocked by my stance on welfare. I'm against it 100%. The richest country in the world should not need welfare.
Millions of Americans are "on food stamps" and "public assistance" because they can not afford to feed their families. This is a travesty. The government should not have to support these people! Our tax dollars are better spent elsewhere.
However, the problem is not with the people needing government assistance, it's with the companies not paying a living wage.
Some of our citizens work three jobs and do not earn enough to live comfortably.
Imagine... working three jobs and not being able to afford rent and having a tough time feeding your kids. This is reality for many Americans. 'Way too many. They work hard but can not afford basic necessities.
So these citizens of the United States of America apply for "government assistant" and the government agrees to cover the wages they should receive from their employers.
They subsist. They survive. But, they are not living the American Dream.
America is not great again.
Our hard working citizens are not getting more than they deserve as Republicans like to suggest. The companies they work for are.
Our taxes subsidize companies that do not pay a living wage. This is welfare.
Corporate welfare is alive and well in America. As the average American struggles harder and harder every year the stock market grows year after year. The wealthy benefit but we do not.
Our taxes support corporate welfare and I'm against it. You should be too.
The money that corporations do not pay their employees, because they know their employees can rely food stamps, goes directly to their bottom line. It's pure profit. Our tax dollars are their profit, plain and simple.
Our tax dollars do not support our hard working citizens in need, they support corporations that underpay their employees.
Welfare is for corporations. Citizens apply for entitlements when their employer does not pay a living wage.
That's why welfare has to end.
Hard working Americans deserve a good life.

One unified program. Everyone gets it. No stigma attached anymore.
We pay for it by taxing corporations and the wealthy.
Redistribution of wealth works! In the 1950s the top tax rate was 91 pct.

(5,122 posts)But, these people should be supported by taxes paid by corporations rather than citizen taxpayers.
Corporations need to pay taxes.
Roland99
(53,342 posts)But yes, corporate taxes have dropped precipitously as a percentage of overall taxes paid
And higher marginal tax rates are needed for them and higher income earners
And a tax on capital (see Pikettys Capital in the 21st Century)
No kidding.
These are the people that tend to get little to no help already.
It is a shameful disgrace IMO.
I am one of them and it sucks!
I don't get any government "assistant" btw!

Sure, some are going to cheat but should so many more suffer for the few that cheat? No.
Republicans are simply selfish.
We can be so much better. Vote blue and fight for what is right.

It already is socialism. We support what the corporations fail at.

(5,122 posts)Socialism for corporations is fine with Republicans because the rich benefit.
Socialism for workers is seen as communism or worse to them. It's time we take care of ourselves and vote all Republicans out.
- Odd that so may poor and struggling workers vote Republican. It's all about messaging. We need to be better at expressing the truth.

It's been corrupted. The textbook definition does not take in to account corporations not paying taxes.

Exactly. Our taxes instead of theirs.
