Crowded public beaches in Naples has prompted the city to issue a closure order for Sunday, effective at 12:01 a.m., to help stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.
A notice from the City of Naples on Saturday announced the closing and said it was in alignment with CDC guidance and Governor DeSantis Executive Order 20-112.
Naples Councilman Gary Price said he received a text from a friend Saturday that the number of people on the beach looked like a problem.

"I went to the beach," Price said. "It was packed. People were parking everywhere, blocks away." The councilman said he took photos to show the crowds, mostly packed close together and not social distancing as required.

Meanwhile Collier County beaches will remain open. County spokesman Daniel Christenbury in a text message said, "At this point Collier beaches will remain open while continuing to monitor social distancing. On Tuesday, the BCC (Board of County Commissioners) will be reviewing and discussing all newly reopened operations."
Naples is actually in Collier County, so people from there will evidently not have far to go.

(23,099 posts)She and her husband rode their bikes there & walked for 2 miles this week and there was no one around them. It was on a Monday morning around 10. They are in their early 30's and have no health issues. My husband and I won't go to the beach because we'd have to drive and park and some of the lots are blocked plus who knows if it would be safe. We're considering driving to a small state park beach later in the year which is pretty isolated and usually has no people, but for now neighborhood walks and home exercises is where we're at.
