Nearly one-third of Americans believe a coronavirus vaccine exists and is being withheld

Nearly one-third of Americans believe a vaccine already exists to prevent coronavirus infection but is being withheld from the public, while nearly half believe the COVID-19 virus was created in a lab.

As the coronavirus pandemic nears 50,000 deaths in the U.S. – around half don't believe that figure either – new data suggests many Americans hold misinformation about the virus. It signals their mistrust in institutions as citizens are being asked to rely on government, health and other leaders amid the outbreak.

Twenty-nine percent said it's either probably or definitely true that a vaccine that prevents coronavirus infection exists and is being withheld, according to the Democracy Fund + UCLA Nationscape Project. An even greater percentage, 32%, said they believe treatment that cures coronavirus infection exists but is being withheld. Around 7 out of 10 Americans said those statements are untrue.

"To see about a third of people give that some level of, 'Yeah, that might be true,' that was pretty shocking to me," said Robert Griffin, research director for the Democracy Fund Voter Study Group. "That's a pretty dark type of thought to be floating around the public. There's an undercurrent of a lack of trust in society, a lack of trust in elites."

I'm sure they're all Trump voters.

If it was possible to break it down by percentages, I would be confident in calling it at about 90 to 95% vs 5 to 10%. I am taking into consideration that 28% to 30% is about the size Trump's hardcore base.

is not a hoax but is less lethal than the seasonal flu, is lethal but was invented by the Chinese and Bill Gates, and that vaccines are a communist plot.

Don't they know their government is run by trump and his goons? Don't they know that "if" a cure was being withheld it would be that same government that they voted into office?

Are they so stupid to think that trump would not be behind withholding a cure, and keeping it for himself and others around him, including his rich backers?

Maybe they need to rethink who they should vote for this time.

News "distrust everything" mentality.

When empires decline, people look for scapegoats and conspiracy theories. "How else could this be happening to US, the chosen people? Is it the Jews, the non-Catholics, the French, the heathens, the doctors, the CDC, liberals/socilists, etc.?" SOMEBODY has to be doing this to us. It can't be that we are a declining power controlled by the 1%.

OTOH, maybe it is just the conservatives pushing CT's to try to maintain power a little longer and it has infected the minds of all of us. I can just imagine Trump selling this CT to explain his apparent incompetence. "The vaccine is out there. It is the liberal medical establishment that is keeping it from us. I am your populist leader. You can trust me."

Why else are Trump and his inner circle walking around without masks on? Remember Trump's emergency visit to Walter Reed right around the time the virus broke? Maybe Putin sent him some and they wanted it administered? He and his are all vaccined up now, so no worries for them, and they're holding onto the vaccine to sell to his 1% buddies at $1 billion a dose. Maybe that's why some like Lindsey Graham are so devout in their support, because they want a dose of the vaccine and the only way to get it is fealty to Trump.

I'm not saying it's real. But there isn't anything magical or anything that defies the laws of physics about it. I wouldn't put it past them.

Remember when he tried to broker a deal with someone overseas to develop a vaccine - but only make it available to the USA? Well I for one wouldn't put it past that monster to have succeeded with someone else, but he's keeping it for himself and his trashy family.

After all, he kept asking "where's my Roy Cohn?" until Barr slithered up to him, right? So what's to stop an intelligent but twisted person out there from contacting him, expressing a willingness to be his personal chemist? It might explain why he's acting so cavalier about the pandemic.

Remember - the more outlandish something sounds to us sane people, the bigger the chance that it's being done by him and his swamp rats.
