Castle Rock business draws crowd against public health orders (VIDEO)
C&C Kitchen and Cafe reopened dine-in service

A Castle Rock restaurant reopened its doors to full dine-in service May 10, allowing dozens of customers inside despite public health orders put in place in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

C&C Coffee and Kitchen, a breakfast and Korean kitchen at 4284 Trail Boss Drive, had a line out the door about 10 a.m. Mother's Day. Families of all sizes filed in past a “bouncer” with a visible sidearm. Every seat was taken as folks dined in. The floor was packed with people standing, waiting for coffee or take-out orders. One person could be seen wearing a mask inside the building.

“I expected it to be busy. I never expected this," owner April Arellano said. "I'm so happy so many people came out to support the Constitution and stand up for what is right. We did our time. We did our two weeks. We did more than two weeks…and we were failing. We had to do something.”

Arellano posted on Facebook stating the Castle Rock Police Department notified the Tri-County Health Department of the violation of Colorado Order 20-24, stating all restaurants must cease dine-in service until at least May 31. Tri-County officials could not immediately be reached for comment regarding what steps might be taken to bring the restaurant into compliance.

“No mask no problem btw,” the Facebook post reads.

Arellano said she was not concerned at all by the fact no customers wore masks or chose to social distance themselves. Arellano said she did not believe the crowd of people in her business was a public health hazard.

“We in the service industry have been taking precautions for years… We wash and sanitize everything anyway...

"People are piling into (retailers). So right now, I don't really see the difference. And we're human… I know a lot of things are ran by fear. I don't have that fear."

in there. How clean the tables are , don’t matter.

It might be me, but does anyone worry that someone is going to lose a love ones then blame the establishment. In not a hot worded letter, either.

The anti-establishment, stop running my life, stop telling me what to do Right, will continue to endanger all of us as they blatantly congregate in crowds, become infected and then spread the disease.

"I don't need no protection." Famous last words.

Let's see how happy you are in 2-3 weeks, Ms. Arellano.

Maybe not 6 feet, but there's distance between them.

A lot of people have the same kneejerk reaction as when they saw the beach pictures. OMG, people are near each other! Well, it looked like families, which means that it's nothing new. (The reports of couples and parents/kids being "corrected" by LEO for not social distancing are ridiculous if true. Yes, you spend nights in the same bed, but how dare you hold hands in public--must have at least 6 feet between you!)

The line is what makes it the problem.

Then there was a local politician who said that when we opened restaurants, people had to be sure to keep their face masks on at all times. She said this with a straight face and an earnest tone.

There's a guy waiting outside to get in with a handgun on his belt. He's saying "it feels like a couple of months ago now" to someone. A peculiar set of characteristics among these people.

I really don't have a problem with openings. The fact these people flaunt not wearing masks and are right on top of one another is Darwinism in action.

it's the Way of the West

My parents had a ranch near there. A rabbit ranch. Many animals were slaughtered there. Yes, it was horrifying. No, it didn't bother them.
