INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The great toilet paper shortage of 2020 has seemed to die down for the most part.

But some baking items are now in short supply in stores: Flour and yeast have been a little harder to find.

..............................

One of the more popular items is baked goods. McIntosh estimates there’s been a 10-15% increase since the pandemic.

...........................
It’s the same story at Needler’s Fresh Market, where more products are coming in, bigger shipments and a better variety, too. But on the top shelf, where the yeast is supposed to be, it’s been empty for the three to four weeks.

“Flour is getting back in stock, but we did suffer for quite a while with it being short,” said Needler’s Store manager Steve Nevitt.

Beech Grove is home to one of the largest flour mills in the country. Although ADM officials won’t tell us about the production, nationwide demand for consumer use of flour in the home has gone up 154% since March according to Amy Cornell, president of the Agribusines Council of Indiana.

..........................

She said you can’t just flip a switch and go from producing 50-pound bags of flour for restaurants to 5-pound bags for a kitchen.

loaf of bread once a week. It's so easy. I think it's gonna be a while until I buy a loaf of bread. The recipe I use is about 10 minutes of work and 12 hours of waiting and uses very little yeast:

So easy on the budget. Easy to change up flours to add variety. Costs little to make vs. the $4-5 loaves of "artisan" bread or even just basic good quality healthy bread.

(Masked and gloved)

And looked for a 10-lb bag of flour. One of my kids is home for much of the summer and has taken to baking lots of stuff.

All that was on the shelves was a row of 25-lb bags.

No white flour and no whole wheat flour.

I've attempted baking my own bread, but even with following the directions to the letter, the loaves never turn out quite right.

(And I'm not a novice cook).

All the store had was cake yeast, not dry yeast, but I bought it. I also have a sourdough starter and made a loaf of sourdough bread last week. I haven't done that in a long time & it turned out really good!

"sourdough starter". You don't need commercially packaged yeast for that as it relies on naturally occurring yeast to get the ball rolling

Every single time I have gone shopping in the last two months there has never been any toilet paper on the shelves. What places are actually getting restocked with toilet paper? It isn't around here.
