The feds gave Alabama $1.8 billion of CARES Act money for coronavirus recovery (pigs at a trough)

The feds gave Alabama $1.8 billion of CARES Act money for coronavirus recovery. Some lawmakers want to spend $200 million of it building a new Alabama State House.

It’s not Alabama’s State House that needs replacing

The federal government gave Alabama a blank check for $1.8 billion.

It should have known better.

That money was supposed to help Alabama protect its citizens from COVID-19 and cover the costs and losses the state has incurred dealing with the disease. There are so many things those funds could pay for, so many ways to put that money to good use.

But Alabama Senate leaders want to use $200 million of that money to build a new State House.

That’s right, we have people in Alabama who still can’t get tested for coronavirus and business owners watching their lives’ work fall apart in front of them. But Alabama lawmakers need new offices, so y’all will just have to wait.

And that’s just the beginning of a long shopping list of things they want to buy, few of which have anything to do with public health or the coronavirus. This wish list Senate leaders gave to Gov. Kay Ivey would turn those federal dollars into state government pork.

housing or something like that, the legislators in Mississippi instead treated that money ($194 million) like their own piggy bank. Is the entire GOP a corrupt enterprise, where RICO needs to be seriously considered?

People will remember this, that when things were getting serious, their legislators were robbing their own tax payers / voters to enrich themselves in this time of crisis.
