14. He NEVER took it seriously.
He's still not taking it seriously. There is still no plan formulated if there is a future resurgence of the virus. As far as he's concerned, it's all a big nuisance and he's just washed his hands of it. Doesn't want to deal.
He has done absolutely jack-shit to prevent the spread of this disease, and has only used the crisis as an opportunity to congratulate himself for the successes of others and to make a profit off of PPE and ventilators that should have been going to the hardest hit states and their hospitals. We cannot go through this with him again. We need a real president, who will appoint intelligent, competent people that will be able to take charge and mobilize resources the next time something like this comes along. This has just been a joke. Thank god we have had some good people at the state and local levels or things would have been even worse. |

20. We're just not counting deaths like Belgium.
Belgium counts suspected Covid-19 deaths, while the rest of countries don't:
"Belgian officials say they are counting in a way that no other country in the world is currently doing: counting deaths in hospitals and care homes, but including deaths in care homes that are suspected, not confirmed, as Covid-19 cases. According to Belgium's latest official figures, out of 7,703 deaths, 53% have been in care homes." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-52491210 Our numbers would skyrocket if we counted suspected cases in nursing homes like Belgium does. Only 33 US states even report nursing home-related Covid-19 deaths. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/may/11/nursing-homes-us-data-coronavirus Based on Belgium's numbers allocation, that means the deaths in those states should be considered twice what they are claimed to be. Right now only about 35% of US Covid-19 deaths are reported to be nursing home residents. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/05/09/us/coronavirus-cases-nursing-homes-us.html Given Belgium's numbers, I suspect the US nursing home Covid-19 death total number needs to be doubled, at least. |

33. No. I'm saying that people here seem to think that
this is the only country with a lot of deaths.
Yes, we have the dubious distinction of having the most deaths, but we also have a lot more people than most other countries, so the deaths per million is a far more revealing number. Alas, we're not number one by that metric. So, I still wonder what in the world is going on in Belgium. |

18. Belgium acknowledges it made mistakes in not preparing nursing homes.
"Officials also acknowledge mistakes were made at the beginning: poor preparation left care home staff lacking personal protective equipment (PPE). That allowed the virus to spread quickly, with devastating effect."
This was compounded by the fact that many more people in Belgium put loved ones in care homes than elsewhere in Europe. Another big reason their numbers are so high is they count suspected Covid-19 deaths, and other countries don't: "Belgian officials say they are counting in a way that no other country in the world is currently doing: counting deaths in hospitals and care homes, but including deaths in care homes that are suspected, not confirmed, as Covid-19 cases. According to Belgium's latest official figures, out of 7,703 deaths, 53% have been in care homes." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-52491210 Our numbers would skyrocket if we counted suspected cases like Belgium does.
