Passport renewal is now not available "for several months"
Is there anything left of our federal government executive branch that is functioning?
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html/ If you apply or renew now, you will experience significant delays of several months to receive your U.S. passport and the return of your citizenship evidence documents (such as birth certificates or naturalization certificates). Unless you have a life-or-death emergency, please wait until we resume normal operations to apply for or renew your passport.
I understand that applications can take a month in normal times, but several months for a renewal? That’s different. What happened to these jobs, anyway. Are they getting paid? Laid off? Replaced with trump sycophants who do what they do best, which is to do nothing?

3. I'm still waiting to get my birth cert back, it's been months ...
Apparently they sent it to a version of my zipcode starting with a 9 instead of an 8, which is near Stockton, CA instead of Phoenix. And apparently before they were able to correct the problem and resend it ... everything shut down.
I did get the passport though ... like early February. I rather want the Cert back, it cost quite a bit to get once all was said and done. This is the DU member formerly known as mr_lebowski.

4. Thanks for this info!
I have my renewal application filled out with check written. All I needed was to get my photo taken at the Post Office and send it out, but then we got into shutdown. It's a good thing we can't really travel now b/c my passport expires in three months, so is virtually a no go.

5. I renewed several months early
thinking we'd be heading to Ireland or Italy to meet up with Ancestry researcher. The new one was quick the return of the old one took a couple of months. I filled all the paper out on-line and got new photos at Walgreens Drugs. /

6. I sent my application and BC the 3rd week of February. 6 to 8 weeks they said.
Haven't heard a thing except "expect significant delays". Using the expedited service may have helped, don't know.
I really don't like my birth certificate out there on some nameless desk or file system. I'd love to get just that back. |

7. I renewed my passport in 2016 right
after the election even though it wasn't due for renewal for another year because I expected incompetence, delays, and possibly outright refusal to issue passports from a Trump administration.
It pains me to see this become reality, although I absolutely did not see a pandemic shutting down travel. I don't expect to travel anywhere by plane in the foreseeable future. My current passport will expire in 2026. |

8. My passport expires in early January, 2021
This is a problem, because I need it constantly for travel, and you're not supposed to use it less than 6 months prior to expiration.
I WAS planning to pay for an expedited renewal when I visited the USA this summer, but I have to be back over here by September 1 at the latest. "A few months delay" is a no-go for me. I hope there is a way to get this done. I doubt I'll be able to expect any help from Cornyn or Cruz. |
