Cluster of COVID-19 cases traced to coughing woman, lack of masks at Pasadena birthday party

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- If there's one thing you don't want to do in the middle of a pandemic lockdown, it's throw a big birthday party.

But that's exactly what happened in Pasadena last month. And when a woman infected with coronavirus showed up, and was coughing at the party without a mask, public health officials say the virus took off.

"There was someone who was coughing who attended the party and there were subsequently five laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 and many other people who are ill with COVID symptoms after that," said Dr. Ying-Ying Goh, the city of Pasadena's health officer.

Pasadena public health workers were able to track the spread of the virus back to the party by contact tracing. Officials say guests at the party did not wear face coverings or practice social distancing.

Health officials said the party was attended by "a large number" of extended family members and friends after the coronavirus stay-at-home order was issued.

2. So irresponsible to go to a party if you have a cough.

The host should have kicked her out. But they shouldn't have had the party in the first place. Awful.

5. Totally agree but what happens is people

Say its allergies.

But no excuse after covid for going out to party period.

I have been fighting bad allergies this year and until all symptoms went away my hubby did all errands with mask.

3. We're going to see a lot of these clusters pop up as people start surging back

into restaurants, churches, barbershops etc. Many people didn't follow social distancing guidelines to begin with and they won't take any precautions if they aren't forced into it. They will be dangerous to be around.

4. Agreed

Too many people seem to think that the crisis is in decline. They fail to realize we haven't really done a damn thing. The next few months could be very ugly.

Thanks, Trump.

6. Dr. Ying-Ying Goh ... hmm. She should be asking China why real Americans are coughing and dying

according to Trump's racist world view.

Trump ripped for 'racist temper tantrum' against Chinese-American reporter Weijia Jiang (with 1 minute video)

But during a question and answer session, Weijia Jiang, White House correspondent of CBS News, asked why the president constantly emphasises that the US is doing better than any other country when it comes to testing.

“Why does that matter?” she queried. “Why is this a global competition to you if every day Americans are still losing their lives and we are still seeing more cases every day?”

Trump retorted: “Well, they are losing their lives everywhere in the world. Maybe that is a question you should ask China. Don’t ask me. Ask China that question. When you ask China that question you may get a very unusual answer.”
