6-year-old boy found in shed with hands tied says he's slept there since he's been out of school

A woman and her boyfriend in Texas are facing charges after police found her 6-year-old grandson tied up in a shed, according to reports. Dallas Police officers were called to 53-year-old Esmeralda Lira's home Sunday night — after a caller told them a child was being kept inside a shed in their backyard.

Lira told the police that her grandson was with his mother, but a man pointed authorities to the shed.

The boy was found inside with his hands tied behind his back. He told authorities that he has been forced to sleep inside the shed since school has been out, according to reports.

Her boyfriend told police that he was being kept in the shed as punishment repeatedly for the past two weeks for attempting to steal food to eat.

Lira and her boyfriend, Jose Balderas, both face felony charges of child endangerment.

How bad does it have to be for a kid to steal food?
I'd bet the adults had all they wanted to eat.

There was no need to "predict" it would happen.

situation for everyone. Some DUers predicted that this would heighten tensions at home and that child abuse and domestic violence would rise.

I'm going to agree with them. Child abuse has always been a problem, but now it will get worse. That's the prediction.

as part of a new research project. I’m not looking at abuse of children, but spousal or intimate partner violence.
The increases in rates worldwide are horrifying. And it was probably me (among others) who predicted this at the beginning of the lockdown.

I’ve mostly been looking at Latin America- Mexico’s domestic violence rates are dreadful, but I’m expanding my research to Europe and the US. My newest project will be to look at what kinds of human rights legislation comes out of this pandemic.

We are to contact our IEP children, I have 9. One of them the mother said I need to stop talking to him because he talks to the teachers and DCF shows up.

I wish we could help, other than maintaining our social distancing. I'm giving more to our food pantry. Just do your best.
