Richard Demsick is quickly gaining internet fame after posting a TikTok video of himself running two miles through a Florida neighborhood carrying a flat-screen TV in an attempt to look like a thief without getting more than waves and hellos from local residents.
Demsick made the video in order to press a point about racism in the U.S., where 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery was recently hunted, shot, and killed by two white men who claim they thought he was a burglar while he was out for a jog.

This best example of a Florida man tried his best to look suspicious and get anyone to call the cops or confront him in any way.
All right, I figured it out, he says while running in the video Ive got my hat on backwards. Im shirtless like Im on some episode of Cops. Im running with a TV. Someones going to stop me now, for sure. Cause if not, what was the problem with Ahmaud?
Demsick jogged 2.23 miles with the TV as part of a movement of people running exactly this distance to represent the date of Arberys death, which occurred over two months before the public was made aware of the killing.
The two men responsible, Gregory and Travis McMichael, were only just arrested and charged with murder following national outrage and discussions about racist double standards in the U.S.

(2,193 posts)Let's not forget Roddie, the driver of the second vehicle that was part of the trap to box in Ahmaud and "detain" him because he looked suspicious.
Roddie took the video that was provided to the police that same day, Roddie thinking that is would support their story that Ahmaud attacked Travis and deserved to be shot.

(1,336 posts)Lawyer did 95% of the talking and and Roddie reminded me of a deer in the headlights....Cuomo never did get an answer as to why he was driving behind and shot the video. Lawyer kept saying "Roddie is totally innocent". Yeah......

(64,951 posts)Then try again.
Oddly enough, this was happening to me a while back, & stopped.
Now, that I'm not seeing it, others are.
But backing out, going to the same posts then playing the video worked repeatedly!

(10,667 posts)the video, and you can play it there.
That method has always worked for me since this problem starting cropping up a couple weeks ago.

(53,410 posts)For whatever reason they spotted him and hatched a plan to harass him. They were waiting for him. The person taking the video was one of two things. Either he had stopped because the truck in front of him was stopped and he thought it was some sort of planned thing so he took out his phone to catch it all on tape, or he was in collusion with these murdering assholes and wanted to have the encounter on tape.
And yes, the color of your skin is the determining factor in White privilege.
The white jogger couldnt have picked a better way to prove that.
CatWoman
(79,294 posts)as a matter of fact, I read he is the one who posted the video on social media, bragging about it.
Once it garnered national attention the whole thing blew up in their faces and he took the video down.

(10,302 posts)That would be impressive enough. A 26" CRT can weigh about 100 lbs. The older, the heavier (more glass needed for older tubes).

(9,350 posts)During an appearance on MSNBC a few years ago, Tim Wise recounted the story of how he broke into his own car. Wise stated that not only did the police not stop to question him about why he was attempting to break into a car; a police officer actually stopped to help him break into his car without even asking him if the car he was trying to break into was his car.

(45,403 posts)and gets it. This is a great way of making his point
There was a What Would You Do episode where black teens and white teens vandalized cars to see who would get police calls with predictable results. The extra surprise was when someone called police to report a black actor's family for simply sitting quietly in the park watching them film.
