Explains a lot.
This finding based on direct responses to the question: How much do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Donald Trump was anointed by God to become president of the United States comes from surveys conducted by Paul A. Djupe and Ryan Burge, political scientists at Denison and Eastern Illinois Universities. Their study illuminates the depth of quasi-religious devotion to Trump among key segments of the population.

(15,613 posts)They don't have to believe he's "anointed by God" in order to support him and vote for him.

How any "christian" could support such filth is unbelievable to me.

(62,444 posts)This is a standard part of what they believe about any government authority:
Romans 13:1
(KJV) Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
(NIV) Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

(96,043 posts)It is extremely unlikely the response that this cheap thug with his hairspray crown is God's annointed owes anything to St. Paul's attempt to minimize his flock's annoyance of the Roman authorities. It is far more likely it reflects their bigotry and arrogance, which they enjoy seeing mirrored back to them by a gilded turd in the shape of man who says exactly the same kind of crap they do about uppity women and negroes and mexicans and homosexuals, and everybody else who ain't quite like them.
"For two thousand years evangelicals warned of the coming of the anti-christ, and when he finally arrives, damn if they don't vote for him."

I'll put it this way, "some Christians are more "Cristian" than others", and leave it at that.

(1 post)By that measure, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Idi Amin and Kim Jung Un were all anointed by God.
However I dont think the average Christian who holds the belief that Trump was anointed by God would acknowledge that, though I cant be certain.

(15,613 posts)Considering the absolute monsters God "anointed" in the Bible stories, and the things the stories say they did on God's direct orders, that isn't a stretch at all.

Too lazy to look up but even Barry Goldwater warned about courting the religious kooks. Said it could destroy the party is not the country.

About 2:55 on the timeline.
"Let me tell you," he continued. "If Jesus Christ gets down off the cross and told me Trump is with Russia, I would tell him, hold on a second, I need to check with the president if it is true. That is how confident I feel in the president."

(11,780 posts)People who profess to be Christians mostly make me sick. If I was so inclined to be a follower Id come up with a new name to distance myself. Like Jesusian or something. Christians have permanently stained that name.
