GOP senator doesn't want to 'wear a face mask in the shower'

If you get an email from a weird uncle who watches Fox all day, claiming that "Pelosi wants to force everyone to wear masks in the shower," you'll know why

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) unveiled an ambitious economic aid package yesterday, which Senate Republicans quickly condemned. The partisan reaction wasn't exactly a surprise.
What was unexpected was the way in which some GOP lawmakers expressed their concerns. Take Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), for example, who appeared on Fox News and made this case:
"Her bill would turn over all of our public safety decisions, or most of them, to [the Occupational Safety and Health Administration] -- which will probably, promptly, require all of us to abide by OSHA rules. I don't want to have to wear a face mask in the shower. That's the sort of stuff that OSHA promulgates every day."
Does the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which exists to help protect Americans in the workplace, regulate what people wear in their own showers in the own homes? Of course not -- and it's not the sort of "stuff that OSHA promulgates every day."

(33,241 posts)Say "OSHA" around a MAGAt and they immediately start foaming at the mouth.
It's not as strong a trigger word as "Obama" or "Hillary", but it gets 'em goin'.

I can't believe someone with those credentials is such a MAGAt Republican. How do they go so wrong?

(43,083 posts)he has ever met. He plays stupid to distract from his true, quite sophisticated RW agenda machinations.
Remember how her shredded Matthew Petersen (and enraged the Rump by doing it, as Peterson immediately withdrew himself after Kennedy roasted him on national telly), that dolt whom Trump put up for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia?
At the very end, Kennedy slips up, and out of character, and has a big old mean shit eating grin on his face, as he instantly knows he just destroyed this bloke's career trajectory in 5 minutes. He is a shark playing a hillbilly persona.

(43,083 posts)well. He could play the wink and a nod whitey powers character, and a bumbling, aw shucks rube to deflect, BUT never would make the same mistakes Rump does, and behind the scenes would be horridly ruthless. The MAGAts would eat it up.

(63,221 posts)There are a lot of massively stupid republicans, but unfortunately there are also a handful of clever ones as well who would really be nightmares if they ever obtained presidential power and went by Trump's playbook.
Look at how much damage Trump has done as a flaming, blithering idiot. It's like he can't fail despite himself. I would hate to see what they could really do if they had someone in there who could plan out a long term strategy and formulate an actual plan.

While in high school, Cotton developed an intense desire to attend Harvard College, and worked intently on his studies toward that goal. He was accepted to Harvard after graduating from high school in 1995, and majored in government. At Harvard, Cotton was a member of the editorial board of The Harvard Crimson, often dissenting from the liberal majority. In articles, Cotton addressed what he saw as "sacred cows" such as affirmative action. He graduated with an A.B. magna cum laude in 1998 after only three years of study, having written his senior thesis on The Federalist Papers.
After graduating from Harvard, Cotton was accepted into a master's degree program at Claremont Graduate University. He left in 1999, saying that he found academic life "too sedentary", and instead enrolled at Harvard Law School. Cotton graduated from Harvard Law School with a J.D. degree in 2002.

(63,221 posts)That's the problem with "their winners". If you look at them closely enough, you will always find that in some way at some point in their life that they have been major losers. If they have been intelligent and academically successful, they had no friends and were not romantically successful, If they were popular amongst their right-wing peers, they were mercilessly mocked by the cool people on campus and rejected by romantic partners.
I guarantee that most of these people have a major chip on their shoulders because they were - at some point in their lives - shunned and rejected because they were complete losers on some level. I defy anyone to find me a right wing politician who was a "winner" in every sense. I think I will be waiting a very long time. I think every single one of them is sick in their own unique way. Not a mentally healthy one of them in the bunch.
