Sen. Richard Burr's (R-N.C.) decision to temporarily step down as chairman of the Intelligence Committee sent shock waves through the Senate on Thursday.
The announcement, made in a statement by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), visibly shocked several of Burr's colleagues, who appeared to be learning the news as reporters asked them about the decision.
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), a member of GOP leadership and the Intelligence Committee, appeared unaware that Burr had decided to step down.
"Has he done that?" Blunt said when asked by reporters.

Thinks some of them are worried, "Will I be next?"

I think he knows it, which is why he bowed out so quickly. Otherwise, he might have been censured, although I doubt they'd expel him, they need that reliable vote.

As soon as I heard about Burr's resignation, I knew there was some other story behind it. AG Barr's Justice Department would never investigate a high ranking Republican unless Genocode Don wanted it to happen. None of them give a damn about ethics in stock selling, so I knew there was some reason they wanted to attack Burr. Now I know the reason.
I also do not believe that Burr went to Moscow Mitch with his decision to resign. I believe that MM gave Burr the word from the WH to resign or face worse consequences.
I am sure that MM and the other R slime in the Senate will put sonebody much more vile into the Intel Committee chairmanship.

(564 posts)Question: Can Senators change party affiliation? How many do we need for Republican Senators to stand up to Trump?
Sounds like a long shot but anything is possible at this point.

(3,282 posts)for control of the Senate. If Burr is forced out, Governor Cooper would get to appoint a replacement and a vote would be held during the general to fill the seat. So both Senate seats in NC would be on the ballot. NC is already going to be a competitive race and adding another Senate seat would just make it an even bigger fight.
