(6,817 posts)The long shot horse race for 2008 was already their current fad focus. Nancy said she wouldn't impeach because she didn't want to say she COULDN'T impeach. The general public would have been outraged that she was trying to kill the "job creator". Remember, it wasn't until 2007-08 that the reality of w's recession was perceived by most people.
I was disappointed then as well but I knew that the spin machines wouldn't be able to focus on unpopular facts. They were busy trying to choose the candidates they would lionize or condemn. Their self-importance still amazes me, even today.

They all have to be held accountable.

If William Barr tells Trump who to pardon, as he did for Bush 41, then tells him to resign so Pence can pardon him, it'll all be a done deal.
We'll have to depend on state prosecutions to bring Trump down.

(629 posts)This helps a lot! I still am nervous that we will hear the "It's time for the nation to come together and heal" crap. This criminal needs to be held accountable for his crimes so that at the very least, it doesn't happen again!

(3,401 posts)...there must be legislation that strengthens democracy against the possibility of tyrannical leaders, ensure that the justice department is truly independent, and the judicial branch fairly balanced.

(5,733 posts)She has the brains, fire, determination, and courage to stand up to anything. She would be a perfect counterpoint to Joe's layback style. Her energy would be the fuel that Joe's campaign needs. She would be the wind at his back.

Not under Democratic presidents for sure. Once confirmed by the senate after being nominated by the president, the AG will be expected to represent the people. The senate's the kicker, though.
Let's just hope Biden's broadly reassuring coattails will help create a Democratic majority in the senate so corrupt McConnell and gang aren't still controlling the senate and we don't have to name someone they'll let through. There are a lot of criminals in that gang, and whoever that was would be chosen to protect them amap.
The party with the power charts the future.
Btw, remembering Nixon, Nixon had just been resoundingly reelected by "the people" in a 49-state sweep, who didn't want him in prison, and his pardoner, Ford, was a Republican. Very different situation than Biden would face.

(3,401 posts)Biden was part of an admin that let Bush and Cheney off the hook for lying our way into 2 never ending wars and the war crimes associated with them. Nancy states that impeachment was off the table when she became speaker in 2006.
My fear has been that Trump and Co. will walk free without punishment for their crimes.
As of now, Joe said that he isnt going to pardon Trump. Not a full throated answer, but it is in the right direction.

(3,401 posts)Walk free? Likely, but not unscathed.
If Trump loses he will continue to sow division by running his mouth through whatever news source or social media that will carry him, and those he threw under the bridge and pissed on will come out of the woodwork to reveal their stories once the see that Trump cant hurt them anymore. In the end will be like OJ, free but with no admirers, which in Trumps mind is torture.
