Whittier, CA, suburbs southeast of Los Angeles.
I've been home since March 16th. Now it's across the street.
Nice, huh.

(23,297 posts)Thats too close for comfort. Are they all actually home? Family of 8....holy buckets.
Two of them go to work in scrubs every day. One's a nurse and I think the other one is a nursing student.
I hope theyre all going to be okay. That could get messy at their house.

(47,546 posts)Fortunately the prevailing wind blows towards them and not towards us.
Not sure if that has anything to do with anything, but I still feel pretty good about that.

(111,222 posts)mask up, knock on the door, stand way back, and ask them if there's anything they need that you can get them.
Even if you don't like them, it's the compassionate thing to do.

(1,814 posts)That 2 college girls living in town just tested positive.
I live in NY, in a county upstate.
We just started to open, construction etc. Today. We've had 4 deaths and a low number of cases.
But we just got test kits because we had to have a number of people tested before we could open.
I think the number of COVID cases will rise .because finally testing is available.
I offered to go food shopping for them. Their families obviously cannot visit them.
We should help each other no matter what.

The nurse tested positive, so they tested the whole family and hit the jackpot.

(21,103 posts)Drive back to Northern California. We went to three stores, smart and final, an Asian Market and a Mexican market all three stores were crowded with people big lines to the other side of the market. I think back about how much infection of the corona virus was going on. We left quickly and ended up buying our water at a liquor store.
Yikes, I hope your neighbors don't die.

(100,054 posts)I flew back from McCarran airport to Long Beach on a crowded flight and stood in a crowded security line. I am still amazed that I got out of there unscathed. That will always be the weirdest experience of my entire life.

Other than that, we've followed the rules since 3/16.

I live alone, so it doesn't apply to me so much.

(51,582 posts)and my apt is probably one of the safest places to be right now. When schools open up and kids give it to their entire family, including babies and and grandmas, you will see tons more cases. I taught K-6 and kids are germ incubators/carriers. The whole family gets it and passes it on...I know from experience. I wouldn't go into a school if you put a gun to my head.

(12,462 posts)That's why I avoid kids ,even when covid was not around, the other reason kids annoy the crap outta me. Glad I am child free. I think I would lose my mind raising a kid. Kids are ok at a distance.
BigmanPigman
(51,582 posts)a lot of teachers don't want kids of their own either. It is so nice to have them go home and I loved my vacations!

(33,309 posts)For the 27 years that my wife taught, I caught the 'flu every fall -- middle of October to end of November. I haven't had it since she retired over 15 years ago.
Many people treat schools as daycare. They send their children to school even if the child is sick, because the parents can't afford a day off nor afford to have someone stay with them. Yet another ripple effect of Rotten Ronnie's austerity economics. Keep the peons desperate so you can control them:

(51,582 posts)K-3 is the worst for germs I found out. I wasn't nearly as sick teaching 6th as I was in 1st. I had to stop teaching because of the unhealthy environment resulting in permamant damage to my health. Now I survive on disability and the ACA. Fortunately I was a union rep and had their support. If the ACA goes, so do I.

(35,293 posts)In most places 30-40% of the deaths are from nursing homes. It infects one person, and spreads--and the demographics , 70+ years old, are the group that's most at risk. Still, it's not a huge number of infections, just an disproportionate number of deaths.
Prisons have the same kind of problem--hard to keep distance. But 70+ are a lower percentage. (Yes, there are comorbidities there, too, and a disproportionate number of men, another risk factor for dying from the disease.)
But overall if you're looking at infections, families are where it's at. One person brings it home and you're in with 1-5 others to infect.
Remember: A low percentage of infections results in hospitalizations.

Stay cool and well. Think of it as potential advance toward some degree of heard immunity.
are they very sick with it? That just sucks, but in fairness, more for them than for you. I hope all those contacts are being traced!

I live just up the 605 a bit. Paramedics came to my next door neighbor house at 2am, a few nights ago, brought out a lady who the paramedics said couldnt breathe. Off to the hospital.
Yesterday I saw someone bringing a bed out of the house and dumped it on the curb. Not a good sign.

(261 posts)She lives at a lake near Spokane, WA. She has no idea how she was exposed, and her husband never got sick. He had to quarantine for two weeks. It took her a month to recover. She was very sick but never had to go to the hospital. My brother-in-law never got tested, as they would only give him a test if he had symptoms.
