disabled mom beaten severely by her primary caregiver - her 11 year old son

11-year-old boy charged in mom's beating

An 11-year-old boy was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse after his disabled mother was beaten so severely with an extension cord that she was hospitalized, authorities said.

Prosecutors said the boy appeared to be the primary caregiver of his 51-year-old mother and prepared meals and did laundry in the home they shared.

In court Thursday, Juvenile Court referee Natalie Lindsey appointed public defender Steven Garrett as the boy's attorney, and postponed his arraignment until Monday.

The boy was arrested Monday after officers visited his mother and talked to him at school. Details about the mother's disability have not been released.

A third party told police about the suspected abuse, Elk Grove police spokesman Christopher Trim said.

1. This poor kid. I hope the judge is merciful. No 11 yr old should be a primary caretaker

of a disabled adult. The stresses are enough to break adults, let alone a small child.

What a tragic case. I truly hope this family gets some social services immediately.

This is what happens when social services are cut and people fall through the cracks. No one under 18 should ever be a disabled persons primary care giver.

But here in the US the boy will go to jail, his life will be ruined and goodness only knows what will become of the mother who needs care.

Her son won't be able to contribute much when he gets out of Juvie.

The whole thing will cost a fortune, much more than supplying a home health aide 3 days a week would have cost.

you mean "much more," right?

And I agree. It would have been much less costly in every way to give the woman the aid she needs.

8. God lord...he's likely in the 5th grade.

Where was the crafty "third party" when the family needed Social Services help? A 5th grader can't cash a check or write a check or even drive to the grocery store.

9. Elder Abuse? WTF

Since when is 51 elderly?

Child protective services should have stepped in long before now to get that child out of that hell hole.

And I have a nagging suspicion that she's not so disabled that she hasn't been able to beat him with whatever was within reach over the years.

The wide eyed boy sat in court today looking much smaller than 11 years old.

Elk Grove Police told FOX40 the boy and his mom lived by themselves in the home where the abuse allegedly happened.

Investigators will only say the mother suffers from an ongoing medical condition, but others said she may have also suffered from mental illness.

The boy's father who appeared in court by his son's side also went to the home often to cut the grass and check on the family.

taking care of someone else. I was the age of his mother when my brother and I cared for my father, it was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. An 11year old doesn't have the maturity or patience for such a thing, no wonder he got violent.
